LaSalle Achieve Fall 2013

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Published

For years, I was reluctant to apply to LaSalle while finishing my pre-reqs at CCP. I guess I was intimidated, countless people told me to apply...but I put it off, fearing rejection. May 2012, I finally applied...studied for the NLN on-and-off the entire summer...received a high overall score on the entrance exam over 100... Sci. GPA of 3.25, Overall: 3.13. Received my "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter" from LaSalle in Sept (2012) and have been living vicariously through current students in the program now.

I have signed up for the last of my required pre-reqs at LaSalle so I can get a "feel" of their grading style and going to a large university. I know the official nursing acceptance letters won't go out until May 2013, and I shouldn't get my hopes up ...but I've worked so hard (and will continue to!) and hope that things will continue to work out favorably.

Has anyone else received their "Congratulations/favorable consideration letter"? Does that letter mean, if we continue on doing well and meet the required deadlines...that it "should" work out in our favor? Oh the anxiety...well I'll be practicing my conversions and studying.

Take away message: Don't get in your own way...and everything and anything is possible if you give it your all!

Intending Nursing, Fall 2013

I agree that it is a really good school and you also get a lot of help if u need it. I am a A/B full time student and I worry about this passing rate.

As an alumni, I passed the exam the first time, as well as many cohorts have at least for the ACHIEVE program it had to be in the 90s; the percentage if the pass rate is within the few months; it doesn't break down after a period of time, or people who are out of state; the passing rate, IMHO, doesn't exemplify how well prepared we were to take the exam, as well as how many of us were able to find employment successfully in and how adequately prepared we were by having well rounded clinicals to work in a variety of settings; that is a far better outcome than my experience at a well known community college with a 99% NCLEX pass rate that wouldn't work with identifying and creating strategies for my test anxiety.

But that's me. I got a great value and what I out into my education and La Salle's reputation got me a job and continue to have several offers; that's what matters to me.

Tx so much. I already feel better. Could you tell me when you started applying for a position? I feel like it will b almost impossible to get a job in the Philly area. Am I wrong?

I would apply at least the beginning of the last semester; It took me about 8 months post licensure I start my job, but the recruitment process started about three months post licensure.

Most of my cohorts had jobs within 2-3 months after licensure, some had job offers due to their history of being in the field already; and some took longer than others even being in the healthcare field.

You have to cast your net wide; a variety of jobs found from my cohort were Peds, Med-Surg, Sub-Acute, Dialysis, ER, Corrections Nursing, Mental Health and LTC.

you can still apply though, because those classes would be completed in spring. for lasalle i am taking the exam on January 8th,when is yours. I registered for it lastweek

I am taking the exam also Jan 8th.

Ok thats good..then I will see u there..

The admissions counselor emailed me this For the NLN exam, you will need to be at least in the 50th percentile for Math, Verbal, and Science, and have an overall score of 100. But they probably will pick the ones with a higher percentile first than go down the line and look at grades too.

Hello Do you know the classes that has to be taken at Lasalle? Is it religion and other classes?

71% pass rate is not good, but I graduated from the Achieve program and passed boards the first time with 75 questions. I took the NCLEX a month after finishing the program too. Try not to focus on the pass rate - it doesn't reflect everyone. I firmly believe the key to success with NCLEX and class exams are practice, practice and more practice questions!!! Do them for each class/exam and you will be fine!

I did two religions and 1 philosophy; I already completed philosophy at CCP; as well as the rest of my pre-req's at CCP.

Ok Thank you

I will be done all my prerequisite by June 2014. I just took A&P 1 and Developmental Psy. I have chemistry a&p 2:and micro left. And she said I can take the religion with my nursinh classed if I get accepted. I just hope I dont have to take anything else besides religion. Since I already have a BA degree.

I'm studying the RN pre entrance exam study guide. The math is racking my brain. I forgot some of this stuff from high school. I been going over and over studying making sure I get it because I sure want to pass the NLN test. I take it on Jan 8th.
