whats happening with your ratio"s.im thinking of moving there but not if it means splitting myself into 8,are all the hospitals having this problem or just valley?and does having a good social scene make up for it.your housing is more expensive than texas and the wages dont make up for it,but its boring here.

But still patient to nursing ratios were not settled, but it was agreed upon the issue going to is going to commitee to come up w/a proposal to put possible get ratios into law.

I did hate how this article made nurses sound as if $$ was the most impt thing to us & that as a result of increasing pay that we settled mostly b/c of increases in salary & retirement benies!

The hospital association's argument that there aren't enough nurses to staff ratios is bogus. If you have ratios, nurses will come.

Since California's ratio law was implemented, nearly 40,000 nurses have gotten new licenses in the state in just the last couple of years. Since the nursing schools only produce 7,000 new grads a year, you can see the positive impact the law has had.

And I know this fact first hand: when there are jobs that pay really well and have great benefits, there are actually waiting lists for some RN jobs in California.

Yes ... waiting lists for some jobs. So much for the nursing shortage.

You can't put the cart before the horse with lousy working conditions and expect nurses to put their license at risk and work in your state. Nurses know that the hospitals will only maintain the status quo.

You have to improve working conditions first. And the endless cycle of increasing the number of new grads who eventually quit because of lousy working conditions doesn't work either ... except, perhaps, for the hospital's bottom line, which is obviously all they really care about anyway.
