I don't get this. I wish I could speak french fluently but I am not classified as bilingual. Therefore, I am never successful with "designated" nursing positions.

Just curious if this is an issue where you are nursing.

I am in a prediminantly English-speaking area of New Brunswick, and I can get along fine, but in other regions being able to speak French would be a highly valued asset.

What part of NB is predominantly english speaking? I am curious.

As I mentioned earlier, I wish I could speak french. My husband is french. It seems as though, I try and try. Take courses of conversational french beginners etc...and it is lost within no time. I can read french very well not practical for communicating with pts. Anyway, thanks for your input.

I'm in Fredericton Sarah, and I would say from here south to St. John is predominantly English-speaking. I think French is more dominant as you move closer to Quebec or the eastern shore.

I think I should rephrase an earlier statement. No matter where you are, being biligual is sure to be a highly valuable asset. I have tried to learn as well, to no avail.

I'm not actually a native of NB, I'm from PEI, and I'm going to school here in Fredericton. I guess I'd recommend a trip along the Fundy shore, see the highest tides in the world and all that. Fredericton and St. John are both historic cities, worth touring. If you or significant other are into fishing, the Mirimachi region has the best salmon fishing in the world. Great rivers for canoeing too I'm told. And there are beautiful beaches along the Northumberland Straight.

Wow, to heck with nursing, I'm getting a job with the tourism bureau. LOL

Thanks for the tips I really appreciate them. We are planning to go to the island as well. Anne of Green Gables and all that. My mother and father honeymooned in PEI. I love their pictures. Take care.
