Langara January 2018

Published

Hey Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has thought about applying for the Jan 2018 intake yet? I'm finishing up my second A&P credit, as well as Stats, and currently am sitting at a 3.5 GPA with the 2 English and 1st A&P prereqs. Worst case, with the two final classes, it will drop down to between 3.4-3.3. I do have a Bachelor's in Psych and English, but my GPA from that was far less than stellar, so I'm hoping they don't look into those grades at all.

I'm panicking a bit though, as I don't have many options aside from Langara. I didn't plan on nursing at all up until like last year (hooray for useless Arts Degrees), so I don't have volunteer hours or any of the high school pre-reqs like Chem and Math. Also, I can't afford to wait any longer to get this going.

Does anyone know the GPA cutoff for the last few intakes? I keep reading that nothing less than 3.6 will get in, and if by some miracle I ace Stats and A&P II, I'll barely hit that at 3.67.

I hope that the presence of a degree will help but this high GPA cutoff has me really nervous.

Any and all answers are appreciated :)

Hey so all we need to have completed by January is the First Aid/CPR Level C with AED, criminal records check and immunizations right? No deposit or anything?

For the deposit, I will wait within the time limit but not sure now.

Are you applying for both of Langara and BCIT? I have accepted the offer from Langara but not sure if I should apply to BCIT. I am taking LIBS 7001 and 7021 at BCIT now. With other fees, $2000 in which $1500 is tuition, is the cost I have spent in my pursuit of entering BCIT. A dilemma is in front of me. I have been rejected once. If rejected again, I need to wait one year to get things settle down.

I'm applying to both Langara and BCIT. It's never too good to keep all your eggs in one basket. If I get into Langara, and later find out I also got into BCIT, I would definitely choose BCIT as it seems like a much better program from what I hear from current and past Langara and BCIT nursing students.

At this point, I would honestly be happy if I could get into either of them.

I feel you! Are there others on here who haven't heard back yet?

Still waiting :3

However what I heard from an experienced professional is that the students graduated from langara get paid as much as bcit graduates and they even hire more langara students.

Yes, I believe that, but BCIT prepares their students a bit better. I know Langara starts their clinicals in the second semester, whereas BCIT starts theirs during the second week. Either way, both schools are well known for their nursing programs.

Looking at Langara's nursing program curriculum, I believe we start it in term 1? I thought term 1 meant first semester?

Langara starts with simulation labs in the first term, and they also go on a hospital tour for a day, but they don't start any hospital clinicals until second term.

BCIT starts both simulation labs and hospital clinicals in the first term.

Hey guys!

I made a FB group for all of us so we can further discuss the curriculum and whatnot. However, I won't be able to post the link since it's against the rules :( but the name is fairly generic so I hope you guys won't have too much trouble finding it.

Hey I tried searching up "Langara Nursing Spring 2018" but didn't find any matches. Do you mind posting the page name? Or is that against the rules as well :S

Should I be worried cuz I haven't heard anything?
