Langara Change in Entry Admissions Requirements

Hi! Just attended the Langara info session and they released some crazy news. If you're not applying for Sept 2016 intake (ie. You won't have your prerequisite courses done by December 2015), they've changed the requirements!

Previously it was:

1) Eng 1127

2) BIOL 1190

3) Stat 1124

4) 2 x university transferable courses

Now it's

1) Eng 1127 or 1128

2) Eng 1129 or 1130

3) BIOL 1190

4) BIOL 1191

5) Stat 1124

Crazy! It sucks a little because we could previously take GPA boosting courses to help raise our GPA but no longer. There were a lot of understandably upset students.

It won't, I asked...Which sucks again cause we don't get electives in that GPA count.

I did A&P II, stats and the harder english course in one semester. I had to take stats again, but everything else was fine. I skipped Langara and went to Capilano though, and I wasn't placed on the waitlist.

It's all up to you and if you are working or not. I struggled with statistics because I'm not very good at math, but everything else was okay.

I would hazard a yes to that. I remember when the waitlist was taken away, they had to extend the deadline and people were getting in with really low GPA's...

I would much rather just get into Langara, then take the time to complete more university credits to get into BCIT. Looking back, it probably would have been a similar timeline, but I wanted to work$$ and not be in school-full time. The pre-req's for langara only took 1 semester full-time, and I was able to save up a lot of money for my tuition.

I didn't want to go back and do BCIT's grade 11 and 12 chem requirements... especially because now you have to pay for adult education, if i'm not mistaken.

Just my 2 cents :)

I'm in my last year of an accounting degree at UCalgary. I'm fortunate enough to have completed the english course already (My one English course covers the two now required at Langara. But I'll have to take both Bios (which I was able to ask for an override request to take both in the same semester) and stats (which I have previously taken but didn't get a good enough grade LOL). I'll be applying for the Fall 2017 intake which seems like ages away!
