Hello everyone! I always see articles saying that an RN job is recession-proof at these tough economic times. I was just curious, are there any RNs here who have actually experienced being laid off recently due to the current state of the economy? (I'm not talking about new graduates who couldn't find jobs or RNs who couldn't find jobs or RNs who had their hours cut or those that are frequently cancelled. Instead, I'm curious if there are RNs who were actually laid off).
im an agency nurse in one hospital and 8 nurses left /fired...the oldie nurses are replaced with fresh out of nursing school new grads...i applied there and as an older nurse with 16 years experience did not get the slot but was doing agency there regularly as charge nurse at night....precepting new grads so they will no the ropes of being charge nurses soon and get rid of the old agency nurses like me....

Same at my hospital, although at the end of October, some were let go as well--part timers, student interns, and positions not deemed necessary by admin. Now everyone is scared, not many willing to rock the boat for fear of what could happen next, myself included!
