Lacking Focus&Motivation

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hey everyone. it's about to be our 3rd week into the Fall semester and I'm still in break mode. I'm lacking motivation, and focus. Lately I've just been going to sleep at 3/4 in the morning, smoking and relaxing. Barely studying and doing work. This semester is especially important because I am applying for the nursing program in October, and I have to take the TEAS which I have not been studying for at all and I have maybe 2 weeks and some change to study for it (October 16th).

I took a statistics class in the summer which I got an A in, but after that class ended I just went on hardcore relax mode.

Usually by now I'm focused and fallen into routine. I haven't worked out since July, and I've just been a complete bum. I broke up with my girlfriend of 2 years a few weeks ago.

Honestly I think I'm just stressed out. ANyone have any tips on how to beat stress, or get over it? The gym would help plenty, but I haven't had the motivation to get my ass into it.

Just think about what's going to help you in the future: smoking and relaxing

Or studying and doing your work?

You're going to put yourself in a rut if you don't get it together.

I know, trust me I know. I was fine the pass two semesters. Over the summer my father had a stroke. Helping him rehabilitate has thrown my schedule off. My sleep has been poor, caring for myself has been poor. Last weekend I worked out my schedule so it can compliment his physical therapy appointments and helping out at home. I need to make that transition to following a routine again. It helped me not smoke, I was working out every day, eating proper and energy + health levels were high, and I was determined. Someone please punch me in the face. I'm being a lazy c**nt

YOU KNOW WHAT. SCREW IT. There are numerous amounts of people in far worst situations than I am in. I need to stop being a little b**ch and get it together.

Glad we could help.

Bro the title of RN is worth more than any girl yet, when my girl and me split it actually gave more motivation I hit the books and the gym hard, but I still also found time to go out which I think is vital, you need to have a balance and enjoy yourself, and if you do get down I sometimes watch E.R. documentaries to pump me up maybe I'm just weird like that ( Code Black is awesome and a must watch) it just motivates me to pursue something in the medical field more, I would personally quit smoking and buy some pre workout and tear up the gym, and go out with a couple good friends during the weekend. Best of luck man!

Maybe you are depressed and need some assistance in the mental health department. Some of what you are saying sounds textbook clinical depression.

Does your school have a counselor that you could approach with your story and give you assistance or a referral to a mental health professional for a diagnosis or medication?

Of course the easiest thing to do is just change your behavior and do what you need to do. But, if you can't go from couch potato to gym rat (and who can) think baby steps. Go to the gym and just do a 20 minute cardio session. Next time do a cardio session and a couple machines. Get that habit started and the next trip to the gym gets easier.

You're not a victim of your circumstances. If you want it, then work for it.

idk if i was depressed, but I was definitely stressed. but im going back to the gym again after 2 months off. Honestly the gym is what keeps me sane and focused. I noticed once I stopped going to the gym, a snowball effect happened. THanks though appreciate the advice. Smoking is a bit of a problem at the moment but working on it.
