LACCD - Summer session 2 CANCELLED

Published

Hi there,

Our science professor just informed us that the Los Angeles Community College District just cancelled Summer session 2. And they are still waiting for words regarding Session 1. This is soooo not cool, especially for all those students who enrolled in 8 week classes in session 1 because those are cancelled as well. Basically, only 5 week courses from session 1 will push through (unless they cancel those as well).

awesome. are you taking microbiology by any chance? im gonna try and crash the class for a permission number. hopefully people dont show up on the first day/week...

also, do u know of any CNA classes around here?

vlove-I barely started taking pre-reqs and will not be taking micro until Spring 2010. As for CNA classes, check out wvoc across pierce or lavc.

cynnacal- I am taking summer classes at pierce; I hope that they gave me the wrong info regarding cancellation of 8 week classes. It sux that students now need to re-organize their science classes and will have to take an extra semester due to this cancellation.

hope to see you both around campus.

vlove- definitely try adding on the first day of class. good luck!

monkeykiss -- where did you hear that the 8-week classes were cancelled? i hope the admission office isn't giving us all different answers. i'm going to go check again next week just to be extra sure. i did stop by the business office to get a refund for my session b class today and they didn't mention anything about my 8-week class being dropped... so i'm hoping that another good sign that it's still going on.

Our Bio professor at LAVC informed us that the Micro 8 week class that she was suppose to teach during session 1 was cancelled. Some of my bio classmates were looking forward to that class. Also, on the email that I got earlier today from registration noted that as well. Did you get any email?

vlove - what about taking your micro online? I know there are a bunch of schools that offer it. I am taking it through ccconline this summer, but I live in CO so its instate cost for me. It's just a thought if you can't get in.

cynnacal - keep us posted on the 8 week classes! i dont wanna show up on the first day of a non existant microbio class.. lol.

sand-dollar - i actually just looked at the link u posted. way too expensive for me since im not a resident. i will definitely look for an online class in CA. hopefully i find one before they all start! otherwise, it looks like micro in the fall for me :(

vlove-if you don't mind the drive, you should check out micro classes at GCC or PCC.

AHHH! This news made me really down for awhile! I need to take chem 51 before fall so I could apply to nursing school this fall. If anyone is willing to give me their spot, I would totally pay you! I am this desperate LOL. cuz if I dont apply this fall, my parents are going to want me to go for LVN (aka leave my university) instead of RN first. Please please if anyone knows someone in chem 51, please I need a spot in the class. I would pay you hehehe thanks! You will be doing me a HUUUGE favor! Id really really appreciate it! Please to anyone who doesnt really need to take chem 51 this summer

Hi,

If you are really determined, you should talk to a chem051 professor during the first day of class and explain your situation; you can be a standby student. Show up to class everyday, do the work, and go the extra mile. Most of the time, half of summer students drop classes, especially science with lab courses due to the heavy load. You can take over vacant spot. Good luck to you.

I emailed her already and yea she said to go to the first day of class but the way she talked seemed like it's unlikely that there'll be a space. I was planning to be a standby student but isnt there a deadline for when I can add the class? Thanks for the advice!

welcome to the California budget crisis! Sadly, this is only going to get worse - I fully expect more sections of every subject to be canceled in the upcoming year.
