Hello,
I have a lab question I am wondering if someone could help me with...2.5 year old sick on and off for a year with URI's, high fevers, rashes, N&V, lethargy, pallor, night sweats...Her most recent labs indicated low lymphocytes, low abs lymphs, high ESR, high granuloyctes, and high immunoglobulin IgM. (Also, her lymphocytes have been dropping for 1 year and granulocytes rising for 1 year.)
I am confused as to the cause...I know both granulocytes and lymphs fight off infection, but what is the significance when all put together? Also, I thought if there was an active infection that the lymphocytes would be high and not low?
Thank you so much for any assistance you can provide!!!

What could cause low WBC/lymphs when you would expect them to be elevated?
Where do granulocytes come in the hierarchy of blood cell production?

Need numbers. Also, do URIs typically last for a YEAR? What role could an immune system that doesn't seem to be functioning appropriately play in that?
