krebs cycle

can someone explain to me what the krebs cycle and cytochrome system does in the respiration process and ATP???

You may want to post this question on the pre-nursing or student nursing forum. I haven't looked at the Kreb's cylce since biology 2 or 3 years ago.

Did you try Googling it? I am betting there are a few websites out there that explain it well.

This is a very big question...probably to big to be fully explained and understood here. I suggest reading your text books or even googling the concepts to really understand them.

Basically...The Krebs cycle is the body's way of using oxygen to produce energy in the form of ATP. It is a pretty complex cycle but works very well when oxygen is available...

The cytochromes function in the cycle as part of the electron transport chain...they help introduced ions to each other (like oxygen and hydrogen to form water).

Again...this is very basic but its an important cycle and should be understood...especially if you plan on working on a pulmonary or trauma area.

Kiwi, what gives? Why start a new thread? People have replied to your ATP phosphate thread, I see no need to start a new thread for every concept of cellular respiration. In addition, several threads on this topic exist. If you are having problems talk to your teacher or specify what you do not understand. However, asking somebody how to explain this entire process on a public forum is a tall order.

well gilaRN...

if you seem to have a problem with answering my questions then maybe you shouldnt.

and to everyone else thanks for the suggestions/help

Reread my post. Never did I say anything about having a problem answering your questions. Curious why you did not reply to your first ATP thread with additional questions when two people responded with answers. In addition, sepcific question can help us give you better answers. However, vague questions asked in the general nursing discussion forum may not be as helpful as posting specific questions in, say the student forum.

Your first quesion was in fact a great question about a concept that is difficult to understand. However, you have yet to come back to that thread with feed back indicating you understand the answers or have continued difficulty understanding the concepts discussed. Then, a new thread pops up asking questions regarding the same process. I see no harm in asking for your rationale. This is what I mean with the phrase "what gives."

No need to be so sensitive and short on your answer, be nice to the nurses. Your question should be directed to biologists not nurses.
