hi! Ive applied for an assessment for RN in NSW. I can say that I know very much on the how to's in applying for bridging course in Australia since I did it on my own. I got the recommendation letter from the board and was advised to undergo a competence assessment program in the college of nursing in Burwood.

to make it short: (If u want to apply in NSW)

1. Take IELTS first, all 7 on all the components

2. Read the instructions on the website--www.nmb.nsw.gov.au

basically here are the most Important things:

a. go to PRC, request for verification of registration to be sent directly to the board

b. go to your university or college, request for transcript and nursing course description to be sent directly to the board

c. go to IDP or British Council, request for a copy of your all 7 each in all components of your report grade to be sent directly to the board

d. fill up the application form-http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/please-proceed-RN/default.aspx

(with the application form, you need to have it notarised, and pay $105 through credit card or money order etc)

that's basically the initial requirements to be sent to the nursing board

here is the information booklet that will guide you/checklist in filing your application:

http://www.nmb.nsw.gov.au/Info-Booklet/default.aspx

Assessment is a case to case basis but basically Overseas nurses are recommended to undergo the bridging course.

You will receive a recommendation letter from the nursing board stating the Nursing school that provides the bridging course or the school that you have to go to to get your registration training

Example of the recommendation letter:

my friend just recently gave up australia, meseems.he says he's just gonna aim for the UK because australia is getting more strict and he just lost his hopes...no use trying to convince him.I on the other hand have a different feeling about this and I think that if i really want something, i have to fight hard for it..and that the rewards of which will be great..haha!beginning to sound like a sage!:jester:

:yeah::yeah::yeah:

yep yep! I feel that optimism from you.. yay! and yes i couldnt agree with you more, fight for what you really want, fight hard, that is. i really wish and pray for our success. now, i have to prepare a battle... a truce for success and i look forward to redemption! haha IELTS writing tets, i will conquer and win! woot! pray for me pls. hehehe

Hi there astromikaelo! No word fro NSW-NMB yet. Actually I rang them about 3 weeks ago to inquire if they have received my IELTS result and Good Standing from PRC. Everything's with them, they said, but warned me that assessments now may take up to 6 months. Maybe I'll follow-up again after about a couple of months. Don't want them to get irritated :D

Unfortunately the poster who started this thread is no longer 'active' and has not responded to any of my PMs. So I guess it's just up to us to keep this thread breathing :lol2:

Good luck and God bless on your application! Let's keep each other posted :)

wow, thanks chocokat.. i thought my post before didnt get a response. my bad for not seeing this.

and yes, pls. do keep us informed. :)

I think your friend will find the UK is even stricter. The UK asks for 12-24 months RN experience and getting a work permit will be hard as unemployment is still high in the UK and preference is given to UK then EU citizens before rest of world

Yeah I really did try my best to convince him to opt for oz, but he just won't change his mind because of what happened to his sister who went back from oz.She discouraged him on applying for oz because it might not lead to fruition.and his mind got messed up.now he's checking out some consultancies so he can apply for it.

can you pls tell more about what happened to your friend's sister because as I see it this is very unlikely. Only those who failed the bridging will obviously have no fruition because they won't be granted license.

Consultancies for the UK will not help as the NMC requirements still have to be met. I would suggest you get your friend to check out this site and let him read what others have been doing for Australia

no pain no gain!

Hi everyone, I'm new in this forum.. I've been reading another similar thread with 400+ pages and phew! the information were so numerous that's why I'm glad this thread was created to particularly focus on Sydney :)

I am currently preparing my documents to apply for eligibility in NSW. Hope to be able to exchange experiences with you guys. Goodluck to us all :)

sorry for the late reply to your message:p

my friend's sister is an IT.she studied in oz for 2 years hoping that she will be granted citizenship or atleast a working visa.sadly, she wasn't able to make it to the number of required points because of the changed list of in-demand professions in oz.so she came back here in the phil and told my friend about it. since he himself experienced the denial of his student visa (for a certificate program), he felt that oz is not for him and changed his mind about re-applying or aiming for the bridging course.i tried to convince him though, because as his friend, i want him to succeed.unfortunately, he said that his decision was final and that he's just gonna aim for the uk.

Meaning, she studied IT for 2 yrs here in aus and not nursing/preregistration. Did she apply for pr herself or was employer nominated? If you're employer nominated points required will be lower.

About your friend, of course he'll be denied a student visa. Coz certificate programs are not cricos registered. And even if he grauated, no employer will sponsor him because certificate programs can be done by locals. Internationals under certificate programs are not needed by aus so they will never be granted a working visa or much more a pr.

when did you submit your documents?

My family and I just decided I'd go for it this week... luckily i already took the IELTs. So next week will try my best to complete my documents, hopefully I can send my application 2 weeks from now or less :)
