Klonopin use

Specialties MDS

We have a few residents on klonopin for seizure disorders. My RNAC says she has to code it as an anti-anxiety and then I get hit with the anti-anxiety med without a diagnosis on the QM report. In the nursing drug handbook, it is listed under anticonvulsants. How does everyone else code this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

according to the MDS 3.0 drug classification guide, Klonopin is listed as an anti anxiety meds, and regardless of the actual use, that is how it is classified. I know it is annoying when this happens. Another good med for this to happen with is Remeron, an anti-depressant which is used many times for appetitie stimulant. According to MDS 3.0 is has to be counted as an anti-depressant.

Cymbalta is an antidepressant, but is also used for chronic pain management. Might this fall into one of those weird categories for MDS?

FYI -I don't do MDS but I just thought of the dual purposes as I read this thread.
