I am new to this site but I just wanted to vent about the fact that I went out to get in my car to go to an interview for an L&D position (I just relocated to a new state) and I had a flat tire!! There is no way I would change the tire in time to get to the interview on time and naturally my husband just started his job 2 days ago so he can't skip out and drive me, and of course he is the only person within 200 miles that I know since we just moved. This is just ridiculously frustrating...I think even if I can reschedule the interview I can forget about getting that job. I know crap happens but jeez, did it need to happen this morning. Then I am of course superstitious that everything happens for a reason and maybe that job was a disaster waiting to happen...

Aww, sorry about that. I also believe everything happens for a reason, and maybe that job just isn't meant to be.

Did you call the interviewer ASAP and explain the situation? If you did that, you could probably have resceduled the interview. The important thing is to be considerate enough to make that phone call and let the interviewer know that you will miss the interview.
If you haven't done that yet .. DO IT NOW! and apologize for any delay.
Most interviewers will understand your situation and reschedule. They are human. By not calling them ASAP and giving them a chance to reschedule, you are sending them the message that either you don't really want the job and/or you are a very inconsiderate person who can't be counted on to show up.
Don't give up so easily.
yes, i absolutely called her immediately, about an hour before the interview was to start. but no call back 2 hours later. explained everything on voice mail. she seemed very nice on the phone the day before and said to call her if anything comes up...apparently any problem other than missing the interview!

If you are that interested in the job, I would call her back again to say your car is repaired and you could come at her convenience.

I agree, DO NOT GIVE UP so easily. I would call up again, and even follow up with a note explaining what happened and requesting another interview and would not give up until I had reason to (that the job was awarded to another nurse or expressly being told they were not interested in hiring me). Persistence is so important in getting the position you want. This is true, whether you are a new nurse or a seasoned one of 30 or more years' duration! Be tenacious!
thanks for all the encouragement. i am happy to report that i now have 3 interviews scheduled on monday (including possibly with the one i had to miss) and am a proud member of AAA road side assistance!
WAY TO GO!!!! Please let us know how things go and where you DECIDE (yes I said DECIDE) to work! Best of luck.
Thats great! Best of luck!
