Wanted to know if anyone has had any experience with the Kings County pharmacology exam, I need to take it and I have not a clue what is on it. Is it mainly math related which I hope, how many questions is on it, how hard should one prepare for it and any suggestions on how to prepare for it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello fourland,
I was hired at KCH a year ago. I was called by the Asst Director of Nursing for the department and by passed HR interview. I was a new grad with 7month experience in Pediatric clinic (not hospital). I had no connections to any hospital. After the interview the Director asked me to come back in one week and take the pharm exam. The exam was challenging, 50 questions and you needed at least 45 correct to be offered the job. The topics on exam included all types of medications including diabetes, cancer, htn, total parenteral nutrition, blood transfusion, etc. Once I passed the Director gave me verbal offer and ttwo weeks later HR contacted me to do the new hire paperwork, background check, and physical exam. This took 3 weeks. Are you new hire at KCH?
Thanks so much for your reply. I am not sure is it the same procedure at HHC-Jacobi, Bronx? Just went to have personal interview with Asst DON last week. No verbal hire at that time. A bit nervous if there is pharm exam. If you know something about Jacobi, please feel free to share. Thank you very much estrellaCR.
Not all units at hospital are 12 hour shifts....so u may end up working 5 days a week (at KCH MedSurg is 8 hour shifts but Emergency is 12 hour shifts, PICU and NICU are 12 hr shifts but Pediatrics is 8hr shift). I know this is the case at other hospitals. KCH is hiring BSN only unless you already have experience as LPN and you are "upgrading" to RN then ADN may be considered. BSN is b/c they are going for magnet status (if you have ADN and are already in a BSN program then you have better chance).
Aez086, congrats! maybe you will get Pharm exam closer to when you get hired. I know that hiring is dependent on passing the pharm exam. But if it is only a verbal offer so far, then continuing checking in with the manager (and ask her about the pharm exam) and apply elsewhere just in case until you get the official offer as only the official offer counts.
enshraemli, congrats! :) I'm going to have an interview with Montefiore soon but HR didn't tell me about a pharm exam. I'm so happy this site and community exists otherwise I'd have been going in completely blind. How was the pharm exam?
Also, in the interview with HR, is it basic interview questions or do they throw in behavioral questions? How about with the NM?

it was about a week later. However, if they already sent you a pre-employment package then I think your safe. I didn't get any pre-employment packages
