Kinda Confusing about GPA

Published

Hello This is my first time to post thread but im a regular reader here. I got a bachelors degree and planning to take nursing as a second career. They transfer some of my credits like Intro to Psychology (B), Sociology (A) & Computer Fundamentals (A).. though they didnt asked me to take any mathematics since I took mathematics algebra (B) trigonometry (A) and chemistry (A) in my other degree. Mathematics & Chem aren't part of the nursing curriculum. Some of nursing student i know, are they need to take mathematics, chemistry, Physics.. etc for pre requisite. Im just wondering w/c credit that i need to consider to compute my GPA.

I already signed up for classes this Fall for Composition and HUman Growth & Dev. Though im gonna take some classes included in the curriculum even im not yet "in" to the program. I know that to get in to the program is really competitive that why i wanna watch my GPA.

you really just need to watch your grades in the classes needed for the school's program you are trying to get into. Most schools use the GPA of your main pre-req classes such as my school is : Pharm. A&P1, English1, and Intro. Psych ... but the higher your pre-req class grades the better chances you have of getting in. If i was you i would talk to someone down in the nursing dept. at your school and ask them b/c every schools different...Good Luck...hope this helped.

A lot of times schools will look at multiple GPA calcs. They will look at the cumulative GPA (all the courses you have taken), the pre-req GPA (the courses required and/or included in their program), and possibly other GPAs (I've heard of some schools looking at your recent GPA, i.e. courses taken within, say, the last two years to see how you've done recently).

As the previous poster stated, make sure you do well in the pre-reqs for this program and stay in touch with the admissions office to see what they look for. Best of luck.
