Kidney cancer

Hi my all nurses friends. :nuke: I have a question. Can one get a non-cancerous lump in their kidney or are most lumps in the kidney cancerous? My friend is 37 and she has been mostly healthy all her life. They just found this mass on her kidney. The doctors say they have to remove most of her kidney. Her mom did not come out and say it was cancerous, but her mom was choking up (her mom is an RN also and she rarely gets emotional). I am a nursing student and don't know that much about masses and the kidney. Are they usually benign or are they cancerous? I know for example you can get a lump in your breast and it can be benign like fibrocystic disease.... I just don't know about the kidneys and was wondering. Thanks very much! :tinkbll:Epona

However, your friend's doctors would be the most appropriate persons to answer the questions that you have presented. I wish your friend well.
