Hello Everybody,

I received a letter from Kennesaw on Aug. 9th.....and......I've been selected for an interview for the spring 2012 accelerated program. I guess my fourth try was a charm.:yeah: I really was not expecting this because I've applied three times before and never got selected for an interview. I mentally gave up...so this was a complete surprise. Is there anyone out there that has received a letter? I'm nervous, anxious, and overwhelmed all at the same time. I guess I need to get in touch with the Career Center and schedule a mock interview. Also, I went on the KSU nursing website and saw that they no longer list the Jasper and Rome campuses for the accelerated program. Will they be taught on the Main KSU campus? I started this post because I didn't see any other post for Kennesaw's Spring admission, so if you find one let me know. Good luck to everyone that got a letter.

@runningman10. Thanx for the tips! It gets rather confusing when one study source is hailed in one post-then promptly dismissed in another! It's reassuring to know that the TEAS study guide is good enough; which means I don't need to buy up the bookstore after all!! Thanx again!

It's four days of attendance: Two days of lecture and two days of clinicals,(with an option to pick any two days between wed-sat for the clinicals)...?

Also, only one group, at the set days/times...no AM / PM groups..?

The number of days you will need to attend vary by semester. It's not set in stone for every semester. Also, you can give your preference for clinical days, but ultimately you are assigned to a clinical day and location. It may not be your preference, but once the schedule is posted, you are responsible for being at the assigned clinical on the assigned day. Also, keep in mind that clinical is not always a close drive. I am driving an hour to clinical for one of my clinicals this semester.

You are correct. There is only one group at the set day and time. They are usually during the day. First semester for me was Mon (8-12), Tues (8-12), Wed (Clinical 6:30-2:30), 2 Online Classes (come people took them on campus). This semester is Mon (1-7), Tues (9-3), Wed (Clinical 8-2:30), Thur (Clinical 6:45-2:45). However, there is no guarantee that these days/times will be set in stone for future semesters. It is important to go into the program knowing you will need to be VERY flexible. The faculty sets the schedule every semester and you're required to be there, regardless of the days/times. I had to drop from a full-time to part-time job and then had to quit my job altogether. It is a large time commitment. So, you must be prepared for that going into it. I hope this helps. You zeroed in on my concern spot on... I needed to figure what impact the program would have on my ability to work so I can plan ahead...

Seems that one's between a rock and a hard place in having to choose one or the other!

-Pay the bills/follow the dream....! I can see why you had to quit...

I know I'm grasping at straws here for max potential(off site) days one could work, but...

-Is the option for some online classes available every semester?( ie, if one was to really push the envelope to hold a job...).

-At what stage does one get to: Know the upcomming schedule for the semester; pick clinical days?

-Is there any adult learner financial assistance program targetted on those who face a reduced income handicap (due bills...etc)

The online options vary by semester. During the Fall, I signed up for Research as an online class. However, when we came the first day, they announced that it had been switched to a hybrid class (partially online, partially on-campus). I believe that pathophysiology (1st semester), pharmacology (2nd semester) and leadership (4th semester) are always offered online. Two things to keep in mind with online classes are: 1) they cost more 2) they are shorter in length and therefore much more time consuming for a shorter period of time. I took patho online my first semester. It was 10 weeks long, and I spent about 3 hours/night on patho. As far as clinical goes, we generally do not find out our clinical days until a couple of weeks before the semester starts. We still have not made preference selections for the summer semester. As far as knowing class schedules, we just registered for both summer and fall within the past couple of weeks. So, I know my schedule for the remainder of my time in the program, but things do change, and you have to be flexible. For instance, we were going to have a week off between maymester and summer session, but OB/Peds is a big clinical class, and they announced this week that we will start summer session a week early. Therefore, we don't get the week off. For financial assistance, I would talk with financial aid. There are lots of different types of aid out there, and I'm sure they could find a way to work with you depending on your needs. You can also search for scholarships online. There is so much money out there to be had!

One other thing that I wanted to mention - It is not impossible to have a job, but you have to be dedicated to working hard. I would say that it is not very plausible that you'd be able to hold a weekday job. Most of the students that have jobs in the program work for hospitals as patient care techs on a PRN basis. Hospitals are generally understanding of your schedule and will work to schedule you around school.

Thanks qtqueen! This is very helpful info! I will bear the flexibility scenerios in mind....seems the minimum on-campus attendance is, at best, 3 days a week..

Meanwhile, I'll try to get info on financial aid/scholarships per it does appear near impossible to bring in any income while on the program- especially since it's pretty much exclusively in the daytime hours...(my job is daytime only)

I'll let you know if I come across some funding sources that might be great to pass on to others in similar circumstances(ie reduced capacity to meet financial obligations...).

Ironically, I tend to thrive under such challenging situations! ie.the quest to yield excellent work output/excellent grades. The pressure tends to sharpen my wits rather than dim them...It would be great if there were PM classes...oh well..

I wonder why these circumstances don't appear to get much attention in the financing arena..(ie stipend for those who have no option but to give up jobs to attend college full time for a specific period...). The only source I found that addresses these circumstances was: http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/scholarship/default.htm ,which comes with strings attached...not all bad, except that one does not know if relocation will be called for...

@gtqueen371: I was looking at the course schedule for fall 2012 for information purposes, and i noticed not only were there different sections for each of the classes, there were some that were a different times for the same class? Can we have a choice when it comes to those classes (it seemed there was a choice if you wanted an evening section vs a day section). For example 3309 or 4402 had different sections with different times. Do we get to choose which one works better for us? What determines whether or not we can get a seat in an online vs in person section?

How often do you have classes that go past 4 or 5pm?

I didn't know there's a schedule out already...Where can one access it-or get a copy?... Also, is the schedule you're referring to for accelerated BSN classes?

hey!

I just googled Kennesaw State class schedule, typed in fall 2012 and chose nursing at the subject and then looked at when we take what courses from the nursing website. Easy as pie :)...although i am not sure if these classes are set in stone yet
