U.S.A. Florida

Has anyone applied to the Keiser University Accelerated BSN for the January 2019 cohort? I applied to the Orlando campus.

Good to know. I thought the TEAS was required for the ASN program.

The wonderlic is an entrance exam but you do have to do the TEAS as well

Yes I have questions. How was the course load during your first semester and if you all used ATI for exams and do you think the school prepared well for the NCLEX And if you had trouble finding a job after graduation ? Sorry I know I have a lot of questions but I'm in between BSN or ASN

Course load first semester was fundamentals and pharm. class 3 days a week and one day clinical in the nursing home. I still worked 2 days a week as a tech. We did use ATI and I felt very well prepared above and beyond for my NCLEX. No trouble finding a job. I graduated April last year and had a job offer since the Feb before graduation.

Were some of the text books found online? What materials did you need to have when you started the program?

I didn't buy their book package at all. I bought my books through amazon and chegg. I googled the isbn and bought it or rented it from the cheapest site. You can also get an edition older, per my professors they did not mind stating that most times it was a typo, or the page number may be off by a few for readings. I bought two scrub tops and two bottoms and a a navy jacket (no school patch) for if I got cold during class or clinicals.

I know we are supposed to purchase stethoscopes, is there any thing else we should buy and what type of shoes are required? were the clinical sites far from school, if so how far? what time was clinicals?

Mostly white leather shoes. You can pick your clinical site unless too many people want the same one then professors will intervene. I lived in the milk district my farthest clinical was in Ocoee first semester at health Central Park. From there I did FH winter park for basic adult on a SPCU and FH women for maternity. Advanced adult was Neuro PCU/ICU FH south and less FH children and a shift at children's urgent care. Practicum on cardiacs PCU at FH south. That's what I chose for clinical. Some people went to tuskawilla skilled nursing during fundamentals. Some people went to FH altamonte as oppose to south.

I'm so happy you had a great experience. I just had my interview with the Dean, I felt like it went very well. I'm applying for the ADN but I'm also thinking maybe just go for the BSN, I only need to take Chem. Ugh. so many decisions. Overall, was the ADN Theory work and Labs doable? Did you feel supported and get the attention you needed during clinical s. I would be traveling and moving from Oregon to Fortlauderdale . Any info or tips. I've been following you too on here. I am early 40's student second career, so Yes, I just want in and out of nursing school.

Do you have any experience in healthcare? It was easy for me the first semester but I also had base knowledge. When I got to fundamentals I felt like I was learning why I was told to do certain things as the tech. Or why the nurse provided certain interventions. It is a lot of coursework so you have to be disciplined. The professors provide the time especially if you speak up. They want your success. I would get chem out of the way and go for the BSN. They didn't offer that option when I was there. I'm completing my bachelors at UCF.

I would also recommend taking Chemistry and going for the BSN. I just finished the Accelerated BSN at the Orlando campus. Keiser allows you to take Chemistry through Portage Learning if the Chemistry schedule doesn't work out with your nursing schedule. I was able to take Chemistry over the holiday break last year and finish it in about 3 weeks through Portage. Let me know if you have any other questions :)
