Keep your brown Office Depot bag from Sunday's paper...

Published

Office Depot is having a 15% off sale for everything you can fit in the brown bag. I don't even want to think about how many ink jet cartridges I used last semester and that is WITH going to campus to print out the outrageously long stuff.

honestly I dont know how people get through grad school without a laser printer!

The printers can be had for around 150.00 now (maybe cheaper!) and the ink cartridges will last through reams and reams of paper - each cartridge is 60 bucks or so at the office supply stores and about 40 if you buy it through an aftermarket ink supplier.

Over the past year and a half since I got a laser, I have replaced the ink cartridge maybe 4 or 5 times. I would have been replacing ink jet cartridges once a week at that rate! If I need color I still use the ink jet to print those pages.

The laser printers print MUCH faster. Thats why I bought one in the first place - it took me several hours to print a project on my ink jet printer and I was tearing my hair out! The same project printed in about 12 min on the laser.

Good tip, I think I will start looking into a Laser printer. On top of the fact that ink is $$ for the one I currently have, it is not the fastest thing on the earth even though it is less than a year old.

Hmmm...definitely will give it some thought. We just totally refurnished the office, new computer, desks, EVERYTHING in preparation for my return to grad school. I'm thinking I'll lay low for awhile before I make another equipment request, LOL ! On the updside, I could work just a few extra hours in the ER to earn the new printer.

I live just 10 minutes from campus, so I try to print out big print items there and it is no problem really. I think I changed the cartridge about 4 times total last semester.

I was printing a lot of stuff on campus too - unfortunately, our campus is not well set up. There are 3 big printers for the entire campus and sometimes the wait times can be exorbitant, and that's just to get on one of the computers in the first place - not to mention the fact that by the time your thing printed, someone had accidentally walked off with half of it. Printing on campus wasn't the answer for me, but our campus is probably unusual in that aspect.

Wow...that is crazy ! Our nursing department/building has two huge computer labs with 4 monster laser printers per computer. They print double sided pages at lightning speeds. I've always taken it for granted but I realize now it is not the norm. I would definitely need a laser printer if I did not have this at school ! And you are in the DFW,Tx area aren't you ?
