KC Nursing schools?

Published

I am currently looking at several nursing schools in the Kansas city area. I have already looked at National American, Concorde and Colorado Technical. Anyone have reviews/input on these schools? Thanks!:clown:

It depends: are you looking to get a Bachelor's (BSN) or an Associate's (ADN) degree?

The schools you mentioned are much more expensive than going the state school or community college route.

Then there is the issue of pass rates on the NCLEX. National American's pass rate was only 80% according to the state board of nursing's website. Concorde KC's numbers weren't available, is that a new program?

Take a look at this: http://pr.mo.gov/boards/nursing/passrates.pdf

They are divided by programs: Practical Nursing, Associate's Degree and Bachelor's Degree. The pass rates give you a good idea of how well the necessary information is taught. Which is not to say that brilliant students don't pass NCLEX in schools with very low pass rates. It is just that less are able to pass than at other schools.

You can find websites for all the schools mentioned on the state board link above. Best of luck to you!

I Have Also Checked Into Those Schools Also..... I Live In Lawrence ,kansas.......at Concorde You Must Be Admiited Bt The Board There And It Is Very Difficult To Get In There..... Now Colorado Tech. Is Alright They Only Start Twice A Year........ Now Your Best Bet Is Probably Colrado Tech. Yes They Are More Expensive .....but All Other Universities Have Two To Four Years And I Am 38 With 4 Kids 18,16,9,6 And The Vo-techs Have 1.5 To 2 Year Waiting Lists....... Community Colleges Are Now With Waiting Lists These More Expensive Schools Get U In Quicker If You Are Willing To Foot The Bill....... It Is 295.00 Per Credit Hr. Compared To 190.00 Per Cr. Hr At A University Or Commm.college And Vo-tech Is Just Lpn And It Is Approx. 2500.00 For Everything So There Is My Info. For You And With Colorado It Is Just The Associate Nursing Degree........... Thanks And I Am Strting Nursing School At Colorado Tech. This Month...................yeah I Am Soooo Excited Also At Colorado Tech. There Are 11 Weeks Of Classes And Then You Move On To Your Next Set Of Classes.................

Wildchipmunk - Thank you so much for those links! I was pretty much set to start Concorde in the fall, but I have changed plans a little. A nurse friend of mine says that Penn Valley is one of the best schools in the area, so I am going to get the prereqs done and plant myself (hopefully!) on their waiting list! I was a little unsettled about the methods and motivations of the "for-profit" nursing schools (NAU, Concorde). Fortunately, I am currently at home with my kids, so I have the option of waiting it out.

Thanks again!

Aloha Momandmore,

Thank you for asking the very question I have been wondering myself. :D This site has definitely been a god send for me.

I will also be starting my pre req's at Penn Valley. Are you going to move on to a BSN or continue at Penn Valley's associate's nursing program? Looking forward to meeting you at Penn Valley!:up::up:

Thank you wildchipmunk for that fantastic link to passing rates. Laughing took me awhile to figure it out  but I realized what all the different numbers at the top were. :p

Here is a link to the Colorado Community College System's Nursing Program.

Basically, you click on the link that says start here.

The best advice I can give you is try to get straight A's in EVERYTHING. It's a lot of pressure but totally worth it and a great preparation for the rigors of nursing school.

Come back here and post if you have any questions. It's also good to peruse this forum to get an idea what nursing school and nursing are really like. Everyone is super-helpful.

Best of luck to you!
