I am taking the NCLEX on Wednesday so I have been studying several different books etc. But I have understood from all of the them that the patient comes first (that was also one of the first things taught to us in Nursing School), right? Well, I just came across a question that states an obese client needs to use the bathroom and it is urgent. The facility normally uses a pully (sp?) to move the patient (saves the nurses backs) but the pully contraption takes a few minutes to put together. So do you grab an NA (cause in NCLEX world they are supposed to be plentiful) and move the client onto the bedpan or do you make the client wait until you can get the contraption together to move him? Kaplan says make the client wait, I am thinking the patient shouldnt have to wait when all you need to do is roll him over and (according to NCLEX world) the NA is available.
What do you think?
