Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Has anyone taken the Kaplan nursing entrance exam? I previously took the net, and applied to the nursing program at Baker for entrance into the program for the fall. Unfortunately, I did not make the cut. I now have to take the Kaplan nursing entrance exam. I bought the Kaplan study guide; I have the barons, as well as the evolve, (for the HESI). With the net the composite score was based on math and reading comp only, a few science and no chemistry. This new Kaplan makes the net seem like a kindergarten entrance test. I can't seem to find any websites or threads specifically on what the Kaplan test actually is about, how it is scored, or any information pertaining to just the Kaplan test. Can anyone help? I will be taking this test in early October. Any information will be appreciated. :yeah:

Don't worry. You can totally do it.

I honestly think I just got really lucky.

I wasn't even scheduled for the exam technically. I was on standby. I shouldn't have gotten in and I shouldn't have passed. Oh, and my car broke down the night before so I didn't even have appropriate transportation. I had to get a sitter at the last minute. It was a total cluster****. But If I could do it, anyone can do it! Lol.

I used the Kaplan test book and I borrowed it for free from the library. I do believe it helped prepare me but I barely got to use it.

They say something like 80% of students fail out the first time or something ridiculous like that so don't feel bad. Maybe you didn't pass last time but I have no doubt you'll pass this time :)

Oh wow!

Thank you so much for your kind words of encouragement. I've been practicing with all sorts of prep test books like the ACT & SAT books. I have a little bit over a month to study and I'm so determined to pass!

do you mind private messaging me your email? :)

I just took the Kaplan yesterday. I got a 91% in reading and a 67% in math.... Reading is my strongest subject as I read a new novel every other day because it is a hobby for me to do so. But Math, oh boy I never been good at and the dosage word problems threw me off badly. I got all of the percentages, ratios, fractions and suckered correct but the word problems was what I scored the lowest in. Yikes!

My advice is to not read the whole passage, just read the questions first and then search for the answer. This will give you more time.

I posted up ahead.

Hey, I am new to the group and I have a question for people that attend baker or have applied to baker. Is there a waiting list for baker nursing program ? How many pre-reqs should I do before I apply to the program? I am new to the whole college system this will be my first time even applying for a college. I feel so lost because each school wants different pre-reqs but then I don't want to take the pre-reqs then my school application is denied that would be a waste of time. I want to become a nurse but I don't know where to start. I want to start soon but where do I start ? I have been looking at different colleges.

Frog eyes ...please contact me at [email protected] I take my test in 3 weeks im so nervous. im interested in the blog.

Can you help me with the science please

Hey i am commenting because there haven't been many new posts. K so I just walked out of my exam about an hour ago! I got an 87 overall so hopefully I will get in to the nursing program here in New York that I'm applying to. There are four different sections as it says in the Kaplan practice book, including Reading Writing, math, and science. There isn't too much practice you can do for reading or writing. I was expecting there to be a lot of vocabulary and analogies as shown in the Kaplan practice book, but there were none! The reading section was extensive but all of the paragraphs were labeled so you didn't have to keep track too much of what you were reading because the questions were specified to the paragraphs, for the most part. The math was extremely easy, and I scored a 94% and this category, and I think I got 100% in Reading period writing is also pretty easy. My hardest part was science because it was very specific. The majority of the questions are on the cardiovascular system and respiratory and nervous system. There is not really any way to know what to expect. I only had 20 Anatomy questions and it was very short, the shortest section of all. There is almost no way to study, to just review everything from anatomy and physiology specifying on cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and neurology and brain functions. Unlike many people who say that the Kaplan book is useless, I feel that it keeps your mind stimulated while you are waiting to take your exam, especially for someone like me who had two months to prepare. I took it with me everyday and got through the entire book excluding the last practice exam period it's good to get your mind in the habit of taking timed exams, so yes buy the book, and also you can buy the anatomy and physiology for dummies book to recap your A & P 1 and 2
