  1. I got a 61% on the Kaplan readiness test and passed the NCLEX in 75 questions. I might add though, it took me 2 hours and 15 minutes to do 75 questions meaning i took my time answering correctly rather than hoping to get to 265. I took a risk of taking my time on each question because going that slow i probably wouldn't have finished in time. But that method worked and I'm a Registered Nurse: D
  2. Yes, If you retook chem you can use the better grade. The course is speech 100 and i think you also might have to take it only at BMCC, not sure. .. You must take all the prereqs. As i explained before nursing school is very challenging. You cant really take courses later. The only course you can take later is either microbio or writing intensive but not both. It will be very difficult to take those courses once nursing school has begun. Also you are competing against hundreds of other applicants so you would want to take all your prereqs for a fair shot. Nursing school is NOTHING like any other course, often very difficult . Get those As in your prereqs first before you decide if nursing school is right for you.
  3. yes @milktea you need micro to graduate from the nursing program. micro isnt a pre-req but you would have to take it over summer break. i took a &p 1 and 2 with labs but you only need A&P 1. you have to take math 104 at BMCC to get into the nursing program. You need a writing intensive course and an english course. you need to take speech as a pre req also. and i dont know if it matters which psych class you take but if you took developmental psych thats good. my advice after having finished almost 2 semesters is to take ALL your pre-reqs NOW. you do not want to take summer courses because nursing school is hard enough. you need to review over the summer and prepare for the next semester. also we have assignments to do over the summer so you wouldnt want to interfere with your summer classes.
  4. Hey! You are in the right place if you did not have a great GPA from undergrad. First you have to be admitted to BMCC in order to get accepted into the nursing program. It is very easy to get into BMCC especially with a bachelor's degree. I also didn't have the best GPA but made up for it with my prerequisites. So that answers your question, you are science GPA and overall GPA will rise because you can choose which courses you want to add to your transcript that gets reviewed by the BMCC nursing program. The best preparation for doing well on the Kaplan is doing well in your prerequisites. You must make a decision to get straight A's in your prerequisite courses or maybe only one B. You must make a decision that you're not going to get your prerequisites to get into nursing school with mediocre grades. You have to try to figure out a way to change things. But on the bright side the teachers are very supportive especially when they see that you are trying. I I was working full-time while completing my prerequisites, and BMCC is the only part-time nursing school in all of New York City to allow you to still work full time. I wish you the best of luck. I have completed nursing 1 and as of May 22nd will complete semester 2 I love the nursing program. I promised my professor that I would help the future nursing students of BMCC. Not all. But if you have a desire to gain more information you can reply to this message. You can do this!
  5. hey there, yes I'm doing the evening program and i got a 87. I wish you all the best of luck!
  6. Good luck to all of you! Scores of 70% for Kaplan are pretty low, Mr Sierra is looking for 80s and up. But a good GPA, like most of you have will definitely help. I had a high Kaplan score but a 3.2 GPA. The the phone call that you get from mr. Sierra is so random! And it's not at the time he says he's going to call! You just kind of have to check your voicemail every day and call the nursing department to find out when they call you and start checking two weeks before and two weeks after. He called me on a Friday evening at 5 p.m. and now I just finished semester 1 of nursing school! If any of you guys make it in, I will be speaking to the evening students about the importance of buying your textbooks as soon as possible and starting the reading immediately . immediately. Immediately. This was such a tough semester for me. For those of you who get in, you will learn that a grade of C is what you can expect, even if you try really hard and even if you have a really good GPA.. And it is understood in the nursing world that c means continue!
  7. I'm in nursing school now, finishing up semester one to become an RN. And my boyfriend has been NYPD for ever 5 years. 1, I couldn't be more proud of him, 2 I am learning more about the force, and love to get to learn interesting new stories, and 3, we both have crazy schedules together! It's better for both or neither to have crazy schedules, not one or the other. For a millennial, I think its best that we don't see each other every day, married or not. We are so easily distracted, and bored easily that it our crazy schedules help strengthen our relationship and reduce our chance of arguments from being in each others face every day. I work full time and am in school part time and also have to devote a huge amount of time to study. His schedule changes every 4 or 5 months from night shift or day shift (cops call shifts tours) and I love that because he is someone I don't feel like I have to cater to in the relationship because he gets it that I don't have a whole lot of time. I hope that one day he proposes and we get married because I think our personalities above all are a perfect match, but I also feel like our varied schedules will work out just perfectly.
  8. thank you! this is exactly what i was looking for!
  9. no, i didn't say anything about passing the NCLEX, i was talking about someone who never even graduated in order to pass the NCLEX on this website talking about using RN signature. and you have to use some sort of designation when applying for scholarships or sending nursing-related emails, that's why i asked.
  10. Hi, i saw a question posted earlier by a NURSING STUDENT who asked the community as she is in her final semester how they (nurses) sign. i think we all know that once you get your license, you sign with your title. but as a NURSING STUDENT, regardless of the semester, i am curious how we should sign. For example when writing scholarship applications, or sending correspondence specifically related to our field, such as a resume/ cover letter. i would never use any such designation outside of that environment until i'm actually licensed. thank you all in advance for your feedback!
  11. Hey i am commenting because there haven't been many new posts. K so I just walked out of my exam about an hour ago! I got an 87 overall so hopefully I will get in to the nursing program here in New York that I'm applying to. There are four different sections as it says in the Kaplan practice book, including Reading Writing, math, and science. There isn't too much practice you can do for reading or writing. I was expecting there to be a lot of vocabulary and analogies as shown in the Kaplan practice book, but there were none! The reading section was extensive but all of the paragraphs were labeled so you didn't have to keep track too much of what you were reading because the questions were specified to the paragraphs, for the most part. The math was extremely easy, and I scored a 94% and this category, and I think I got 100% in Reading period writing is also pretty easy. My hardest part was science because it was very specific. The majority of the questions are on the cardiovascular system and respiratory and nervous system. There is not really any way to know what to expect. I only had 20 Anatomy questions and it was very short, the shortest section of all. There is almost no way to study, to just review everything from anatomy and physiology specifying on cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, and neurology and brain functions. Unlike many people who say that the Kaplan book is useless, I feel that it keeps your mind stimulated while you are waiting to take your exam, especially for someone like me who had two months to prepare. I took it with me everyday and got through the entire book excluding the last practice exam period it's good to get your mind in the habit of taking timed exams, so yes buy the book, and also you can buy the anatomy and physiology for dummies book to recap your A & P 1 and 2
