Kaplan and hurst together

Published

Hey all ... Was wondering if anyone has ever taken both hurst and kaplan together ... I recently took hurst and was unsuccessful the first time so I'm gunna try out kaplan since I realized I was lacking in critical thinking and breaking down the questions to nclex... Hurst is offering me a 45 day remediation packet and I didn't want it to go to waste .... Any thoughts or advice from anyone who has taken both before ? Thanks !!!!

I have a classmate who chose to do both, and she really liked Hurst for content. She didn't like that the Kaplan class didn't include content, but I found it was really good, because it was more about strategies, which I found REALLY helpful. I read the Kaplan Content Review Guide cover to cover, and I found it relatively helpful, but honestly, the NCLEX is hard to really study for. This is why I found that the strategies were more important than content. Knowing how to prioritize and how to delegate, particularly if a nurse is floating from another department (seemed to get a lot of those) were what mattered most.

Thanks @runbabyrun for responding !! This is my second time taking it and I am coming into this time around with a clearer head and higher motivation to kick the test in the butt :) first time around I didn't utilize my sources well... I just thought it would be good to do something new and different this time around as well.... I heard that everything they tell you far as how to study u have to do it that way ? Is that right ? How many hours per week did u study ? Thanks again any insight from a person who was successful using kaplan is a big help.... Taking the plunge and taking kaplan was hard cause of all the opinions so hearing good stuff about it makes me feel a lot better ;) congrats on passing btw!!!! ( partytiiiiiime!!!)

Was your friend success using both ?

She hasn't posted anything about taking her exam yet, so I'm not sure.

I'm not sure what you mean by "I heard that everything they tell you far as how to study u have to do it that way ?"

I would say that I studied a good 30 hours a week. I also work and have a family, so I couldn't do it full time. I did the Kaplan class the first week in May, and did some studying and the first few exams before that. I waited to do any of the Q Bank until after the class. I just took my exam yesterday, so I don't know officially how I did, but I had 75 questions and am getting the good pop up.

My friend who took it before me used hurst and Kaplan and passed in 75 questions. I primarily focused in on Kaplan and their test taking strategies to help me. I did Kaplans 7 trainers and finsihed the qbank, which they said that those who passed did. I got 223 questions and passed! I think kaplan was wonderful for questions and that they made you think through the questions, and it was very nclex-like. I guess it just depends on you and how you feel about the courses. Best wishes on your second attempt! YOU CAN DO THIS!

Thanks u guys :) the advice and encouragement help out a lot !!! Best wishes to u both in your nursing careers !!! Woo hoooooo !!!!!!!
