Kaplan or Hurst Review for NCLEX RN

Published

I am a horrible test taker. Always have been. My HESI scores range drastically from 90 to 60 so they do not accurately reflect what I know. Which NCLEX review course would you recommend for a bad test taker? Kaplan or Hurst?

5 weeks till graduation :) (Southern CT State University BSN Program)

It really depends whether your challenge is with content or with test strategy. I did Hurst Online and used the Kaplan Premier book. Hurst was great for content, and Kaplan was great for strategy. I also think that the Kaplan questions are of a higher quality than the Hurst questions, so I was glad to have those for practice.

I actually did both. I attended Hurst Live class (and used Hurst) for content. I believe that in order to pass NCLEX, you must have a great grasp of the core content. I also used Kaplan. Their testing strategies will help you attack questions

you're unfamiliar with. You may also want to check out PDA by LaCharity. THIS IS A GREAT REVIEW MATERIAL. Once you feel you already know your core content, try to

do lots of practice questions. I did 6,633 questions before I took the exam. I'm not saying you should also do that but try to do at least 50 questions per day. I reviewed for 2 months and passed NCLEX on my

first try.

Simply put, you need to ask yourself WHY you are a bad test taker? Is it because you lack content or do you lack the strategies to pick the right answer? If you are weak in content, do Hurst but do Kaplan if you need testing strategies. I honestly loved the Kaplan Qbank and Trainers. It really made NCLEX seem easy!
