Kaplan is offering a free NCLEX-RN practice exam and I wanted to know if anyone did it before? What should I expect and am I wasting my time by doing this because my school is offering a NLN diagnostic test the same week?
I also want to know if the Saunders 3rd edition which I have is similar to the 4th? I am using the 3rd but not sure if I should buy the newer one.
I graduate the first week of May 2009 if that helps.
Thanks

Hi snydayz,:)
I don't know anything about the Kaplan free exam, but if free why not? As far as the Saunder's 4th ed. I actually like the way they organized the book and all of the material is updated. On amazon.com or half.com you can but them at a reasonable price but make sure the CD is included.

Hi Snydayz-
I actually took kaplan and the diagnostic test which we took the first day of class as well as the readiness test at the end of class were absolutely nothing like the questions on the NCLEX. They both had much easier questions than the NCLEX. SO if the practice exam they are offering is anything like (which im assuming it may be) the tests they offer in class, then I would say not to waste your time. However, I took kaplan and failed the NCLEX so I dont know how much of my opinion you want to take. :)

Thank you so much I will take any opinion because I believe we all have something to share :)

I guess it depends on who you ask. I thought Kaplan was much more acurate to how the NCLEX questions really were. I used Saunders book and Mosby's flash cards along with an ATI CD with a 1000+ review questions...got all 265 questions on the NCLEX and failed. I was so angry because I felt like the material I had used to study had no relavence to what I saw on the NCLEX. When I started studying with Kaplan I was relieved that the wording and types of questions were similar to the actual test. AND... Kaplan helps you READ and ANSWER the questions using strategies instead of just looking at the question and reading the answer. This was a weakness I found I had for sure.

If it is free I would go for it. It can't hurt.

Congrats on your graduation snydayz!. yeah if it is for free,...i would also go for it. i did kaplan, . i cant compare it yet with the real nclex, but must admit, kaplan is difficult and sometimes feel nuts with the rationale. lol. wish you luck on your study!... God bless!

I did the free event and I found it very helpful my results let me know what areas that l needed to focus on. I even signed up for the class and save $120 off the class just for taking the diagnostic test. You should go!
Thanks so much..I will be attending :)

Take the Kaplan free thing. I used Saunder's third and it was great. Just took my NCLEX this week.
