Kaplan FNP (post masters)

Has anyone attended or graduated from Kaplan? I have my MSN and it looks like I can complete my post masters FNP fairly quickly there and it's not terribly expensive. I have looked at my local state schools, but there are not too many post masters options, so it would take much longer and I wouldn't be able to start anywhere until August of next year. With Kaplan, I could start as early as December. It just makes me nervous since I don't know anyone who has attended this school. Any input welcome!

I am currently an FNP post masters student at Kaplan, I have only been in classes a little over a month, but I can tell you there is a ton of reading and research. I have had several online seminars with teachers, test, quiz's and wanted to cry a time or two. But, this is what I really want and I believe, when you want something you will work your butt off to accomplish it. So I am super committed to conquering my fears and will complete this stage of my professional growth with my mind intact.

May I ask what your weekly school schedule is like? Is there a test or paper each week? Have you done online studies before at any other school? I have done 2 degrees with Grand Canyon and felt their classes were extremely organized. Do you feel that you know what you are expected to do from week to week? Thanks for the advice and good luck! Hang in there!

I did my MSN online and completed it this past summer, I am currently taking 2 classes and the work varies between the courses. Basically you will have one writing assignment each week, 1 seminars with the teacher and other students, one quiz, 3 discussion post (but this is not applicable for every course). To me it is very organized and there is a live orientation that you will take prior to starting school that will allow you to navigate the various platforms you will be using along with being able to ask questions. The information for each week is available once the class goes live, but you cannot submit any work early as it will not count. Prior to starting my classes i had my book so i began to read the chapter and review the rubric so that i knew what each teacher was looking for. Hope this helps

OP:

What is the preceptor situation for you with this school? Do you have them avaiable to you right now?

The course work can be done. That should not be an issue. You MUST get your preceptors lined up now because they are not a dime a dozen.

Also this being a for-profit, did you remember signing or will you sign an arbitration agreement as a condition of enrollment?

They will slip this in with the rest of the paperwork as if it's inconsequential and has no real bearing on anything. But on the contrary, it has a bearing on everything if you and the school eventually don't see eye to eye.

Kaplan is owned by (Graham Holdings) they are traded on the stock market. That means their primary concern is making money. Their secondary concern is rewarding the CEO. Their tertiary concern may be your education.

Be careful with the for-profits they feed off of people who are desperate and impatient and see no reasonable alternative to being a cash cow to investement bankers.

Frankly, I would consider another school that is not part of an "industry" as they call themselves with a verifiable (ITT tech, Corinthian, Heritage) to name a recent few, checkered past.
