Kapiolani Community College (KCC) - ADN Spring 2024

Published

Hi! Is anyone applying in Kapiolani's nursing program next year 2024?

I am feeling anxious day by day since the program is very competitive and I am feeling discouraged about some of my grades in the prerequisites subject. My stats are as follows:

+Prereqs: 6 A's, 2 B's, 2 C's (Micr and Bioc)

+Co-Req: 2 B's

+ATI-TEAS: 90.7 %

+Work Experience: CNA for 3 years

Overall, I am just worried about my grades bringing me down in the application. For both Microbiology and BioChem I got D on the first time and retook, and it just devastated me knowing that I almost got a B in those subjects, but my best wasn't enough and still got a C. Do you guys think I have a chance? What are your thoughts?

kinda awkward but I've seen people on this thread that are applying to KCC's Spring '25 cohort.

I submitted my application last week when I went in to take the TEAS for the first time. I'm nervous that I'm not going to get in because of how insanely competitive the program is.

Anyway, here are my stats:

3.88 pre reqs (the only B on my entire transcript is in Statistics smh). It rounds up to 3.9 if you count the A I got in Biochem LOL

4.0 co reqs

90.7 TEAS

CNA certification but I'm not licensed and I have no patient care experience at all. When I submitted my application I just attached a photocopy of my CNA certificate, but now I'm thinking that I should've got one of the instructors to write a letter of rec? or maybe not IDK

I'm hoping my lack of experience won't set me back too much, but I think my TEAS score puts me in a good spot...

You have a high chance to get in! I took my TEAS last week as well but I did not pass it... 😞

was it your first time as well? how did you study for it? if I'm remembering correctly, you can take it again in a few months which is just in time for the next application period.

bro after I took it I Googled one of the questions and I swear the entire exam popped up lmao. I didn't study for english or reading, and they were my two lowest scores (89 and 84) - I def would have got an exemplary score but I wanted to be lazy and just roll with the punches. My worst habit is just speeding through exams. I 'finished' it in just under two hours, but a good chunk of that time was spent going back and basically retaking it. LOL the adrenaline was realllll I was so stressed

I hope so haha.

I have a question about the program if you don't mind me asking. Are the grade requirements crazy? like, is there a minimum average exam score for the exams, and if so, what is it? I'm seeing online that a lot of programs want an 80... sounds like hell LOL

No, not 80%. You have to get an overall grade of 70% for all the exams combined. This means you can get a 60% on an exam and still pass the class as long as all the others average you out to 70. Imo, the grade requirements are reasonable, not crazy.

Oh thank God hahaha. So it's on a regular grading scale then? Like 90%+ is an A and so on?
