Kapiolani Community College (KCC) - ADN Spring 2024

Published

Hi! Is anyone applying in Kapiolani's nursing program next year 2024?

I am feeling anxious day by day since the program is very competitive and I am feeling discouraged about some of my grades in the prerequisites subject. My stats are as follows:

+Prereqs: 6 A's, 2 B's, 2 C's (Micr and Bioc)

+Co-Req: 2 B's

+ATI-TEAS: 90.7 %

+Work Experience: CNA for 3 years

Overall, I am just worried about my grades bringing me down in the application. For both Microbiology and BioChem I got D on the first time and retook, and it just devastated me knowing that I almost got a B in those subjects, but my best wasn't enough and still got a C. Do you guys think I have a chance? What are your thoughts?

Yes I did! 🙂 My cohort accepted 24 students I think. The Fall 2024 cohort only accepted 18 students!

Ahhhh!! May I ask how do you like the program? 🙂

Also what is the schedule like in the first semester? Is it Monday-Friday? 🙏

Wow! You're definitely gonna get in! I'm hesitating because I have zero experience

I've only taken it once. I used SmartEdition and studied about 1-2 hours everyday. The hardest part in my opinion was the science while the others were fairly easy and pretty straightforward.

I do really like the program so far. Our schedule for this first semester was

Mondays 1 hour zoom class at 8am. Tuesdays were lab days 8:30am to 4pm. Wednesday clinical 6:00am to 3:00pm. Thursdays were Pathophysiology 8am to 11am zoom and in person exams. Fridays were lecture days 8:30am to 3pm. Depending on what lab/clinical rotation you get, Tuesday and Wednesday can switch.

I do work while in school but only Saturday and Sunday. I know some people that will work the second parts of Monday/Thursday because they are usually zoom in the mornings and that's it.

Good luck to you guys getting in!

Don't hesitate on that. Not many people in my class had experience prior to starting the program. Some people are even fresh out of high school. I don't think experience is the first deciding factor.

I think including a letter of recommendation is a very good idea. I added two to my application. Both were professional letters from past employers.

Ahhhh thank you so much for taking the time to respond! This is so helpful to know. How hard/difficult is the program as far as studying and exams? Is the program what you expected it to be? 🙂

kinda awkward but I've seen people on this thread that are applying to KCC's Spring '25 cohort.

I submitted my application last week when I went in to take the TEAS for the first time. I'm nervous that I'm not going to get in because of how insanely competitive the program is.

Anyway, here are my stats:

3.88 pre reqs (the only B on my entire transcript is in Statistics smh). It rounds up to 3.9 if you count the A I got in Biochem LOL

4.0 co reqs

90.7 TEAS

CNA certification but I'm not licensed and I have no patient care experience at all. When I submitted my application I just attached a photocopy of my CNA certificate, but now I'm thinking that I should've got one of the instructors to write a letter of rec? or maybe not IDK

I'm hoping my lack of experience won't set me back too much, but I think my TEAS score puts me in a good spot...
