Kaiser telemedicine RN from home

Specialties Triage

Published

Hi all! Are there any telemedicine nurse's from Kaiser Who currently work at home? I am a Kaiser nurse and I'm considering transitioning into this position. According to the description after your 6 months of training you can work from home but it doesn't specify that you need to be within a certain distance from the call center. Does anyone know are you able to work from anywhere as long as you have good Wi-Fi? If anyone does this do you have a laptop and a cell phone or is it a big home office setup and a landline? Thank you so much. It's very scary to think of changing and if I do I would be losing my seniority.

Ok so I did some sleuthing. It seems that you can work from home but only if those rare positions open up. It gets posted internally and you can apply once you have been with KP for at least 6 mos. Since seniority is in play, my guess is that it might be tough to get those positions if you are low on the totem pole.

In Nothern California advice nurses cannot work from home. I know this for a fact. CNA does not allow it. This might be true in So Cal but not No Cal. Seniority is how they decide on a position. There are TSR's who work from home. Those are the clerks who first answer the calls and they aren't RNs.

I have an interview this week for KPOC, but these comments are concerning to me. I was curious if there was a high turnover because they have really rushed me through the process. I am currently in an acute care setting and I love patient interaction, but I got into a terrible accident and can no longer handle the physical demands of my job so I'm looking for something less physically demanding. But the thought of micromanagement and constant call volume with no breaks concerns me for a number of reasons. I am not when that changes jobs frequently, I have been in my current position for 15 years, I was hoping for something that would be long-term. I was told over the phone that after six months I could work from home but some of you were saying that that is not the case? Can anyone please elaborate for me what this is like once you have passed the six-month training. And are working on your own at home? Is there still micromanaging that occurs, thank you so much for any information you can give me.

I sent you PMs.

Which call center are you at? Are you in Norcal or Socal Kaiser?

CNA does allow some RNs to work from home but there are VERY few and not sure the reasoning behind it. Socal can work from home... hopefully eventually, if you jump through all the hoops and none of it has to do with seniority with Socal Kaiser and home.

I know for a fact the only nurses who work from home in no cal are in Quality and they aren't union. CNA doesnt want us working at home because they are afraid Kaiser will then outsource our jobs.

I was saying seniority is how they decide on Kaiser positions in general. I wasn't referring to wokring at home. Just to clarify

Thanks!

@ILoveHorsesRN hi I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you still work at the advice line? I just recently applied last week and waiting to hear back from the recruiter. Can you tell me more about the 6 weeks training?
