Hi everyone!
Just wanted to start a thread so we can all chat/update each other for the Kaiser New Grad- Fall Cohort 10 application which opens 04/26!
Hello, I received an offer email today and wanted to give info that could possibly help others out.
I graduated last December; scheduled my NCLEX a few days before KP would choose their candidates and didn't get an interview offer for cohort 9. For more of my background, I already had my ACLS, BLS, and an EKG class done; I did an externship in MedSurg; volunteer work; and previous jobs. I also had a letter of recommendation.
For cohort 10, I updated some of my information. I updated my license, uploaded another letter of recommendation, and fixed up my resume. I would recommend if you don't have this down: putting certifications higher on your resume since it's definitely something the interviewer will look at and putting in your RN license number if you haven't. Expiration dates for the certifications is good also. This time around, I received an interview.
During my interview, the interviewers consisted of the manager of the unit that I was applying for and an educator. They went through their powerpoint and then they randomly chose the order of the candidates to present. My recommendations would be to show a friendly personality, readiness to work with KP specifically, and story telling in your presentations. Knowing KP's missions and what they stand for is very important. I think these qualities in your presentation matter more than experience. The only experience I had in the medical field was my nursing externship/PCT work.
Also, remember that the candidates that you are going up against are also going to be very good candidates. In my interview, all of the presentations were great that I truly wasn't sure if I'd be considered. So I strongly advise you to be creative and practice a lot. Also doing a lot of research on how to make your presentation different and memorable.
I hope this information can be useful for some of you guys. Good luck and don't give up.

Did you apply and interview and not get in the first round and then reapplied? I'm feeling super discouraged

My friend from another cohort said some of her friends or co workers got denied twice after interviewed, but got lucky on the third one.
I also knew atleast 2 kaiser employee that didn't get in twice already. It is heartbreaking, but don't lose hope.
Hello, I received an offer email today and wanted to give info that could possibly help others out just like @msbrn!
I graduated late October 2023; scheduled my NCLEX 2 weeks after my graduation. Got my license mid November. I didn't get an interview offer for cohort 9. At this time, I had my ACLS, BLS, NIHSS certification and an EKG class done. I previously worked at UCSF as a practice coordinator and LensCrafters as a eyewear consultant. I never did an externship in a hospital. I did complete my critical care rotation at KP in Anaheim. I also had a letter of recommendation from my critical care nursing instructor from KP. I had 2 additional LORs from my PH Professor and peds professor.
For cohort 10, I updated some of my information. I updated my license number, PHN license number, got my PALS, uploaded the same 3 letter of recommendations, had work experience as a school nurse for a couple of months, and fixed up my resume. This time around, I received an interview with KP
During my interview, the interviewers consisted of one manager of the unit that I was applying for and an educator. I went first out of my group of 4. I only had one manager sit in during my presentation while the other 3 candidates had 2 managers sit in theirs.
My recommendations would be yourself, why you want to work with KP specifically. They don't want to hear basic stuff like I chose nursing because it is a stable career. Be real, be authentic, be true!
I strongly recommend practicing your presentation over and over again. To the point that you do not need notes to explain why you want to work at KP and why you deserve a spot. I noticed that some of the other candidates had scripts and were reading off of it. It can be good to reference them during an interview, but I think the managers and educators just want to see your personality and why you belong there.
I truly hope this helps! Wishing you all the best of luck! Good things are coming <3
This was my first interview with Kaiser but my 3rd interview and job offer. I think the fact that I knew not everything was hinging on this interview really helped me to relax. I can't recommend enough that folks take every opportunity to apply and interview if for nothing else than to prepare and strengthen yourself as an interview candidate. My first interview and job offer was for a SNF and I decided to turn it down and hold out for a hospital gig.
It's really important to visualize yourself as a nurse and to remember that the employer really wants someone they could see themselves enjoying to work alongside. Speak to your past experience but only as you can see how it matters to the future, speak to the values and mission of the employer, speak to how you SEE yourself as a nurse on the unit you are interviewing for. Don't talk about other positions/specialties you want down the road— seems to be one of the main reasons I've seen folks get turned down. Practice your behavioral interview style questions! I incorporated multiple behavioral scenarios into my presentation to be as specific and detailed as possible instead of using vague language. (I watched YouTube nurse interview coach videos too).
For those curious about my stats: no prior healthcare experience but I did have a clinical at Kaiser and I also volunteered only about 120 hours at another hospital extracurricularly. Summa cum laude and also a prior bachelors degree in psychology. I have ACLS, PALS, NIHSS, ECG Level 1, and MAB. I also have over 15 years of experience in hospitality industry which seems to be really valued by employers.
edit: graduated Dec 2023, passed NCLEX Feb 2024

For cohort 9, I only submitted my application and did not receive an interview offer. Then I reapplied for cohort 10 and went through interviews. I was feeling discouraged as well but it just depends on how much you want it and when you want to work. I had time to wait to apply for the next cohort.
