I was not expecting nursing school to be so....boring. I've been working towards this for over 6 years, everyone is so excited for me and proud of me and wants to hear all the exciting stories about what I'm doing and....I really don't have any.
I loved anatomy and physiology and microbiology. I found those courses fascinating. I'm having a hard time getting into 20 techniques for taking temperature and 10 chapters about how patients exist within the context of family, society, and religion.
Anyway, I just wanted to put that out somewhere in the universe, because my family sure wouldn't want to hear it. If anyone is so inclined, it would be awesome to hear that it gets better.
Yeah the fundamentals crap is boring. At least someone has learned how to prep an IV line. We haven't even gotten that far and we started on the 17th of Aug. Basically we're thrown in a lab and told to practice whatever w/o having a demonstration done first. We're expected to go online and view videos of strangers performing the skills and if we need more hands on experience in the presence of an instructor, we're to make an appointment for open lab. As far as skills are concerned, we are doing physical assessments, and vitals. In fundamentals we're covering effective communication, assessments, functional health patterns, and care plans/nursing diagnoses...This upcoming week we're going to start working on concept maps. So far I've taken 3 exams, 2 in Pharm and 1 in fundamentals. I've gotten a 90, 89 and an 82 respectively. I'm sure nursing school will get more excited once we get through this first semester of fundamentals it's actually going by pretty quickly...thank Goodness!!!
Good luck!
