Just took NCLEX... thoughts

It shut off after 75 questions.

I finished in 45 minutes.

I feel like I failed, but everyone feels that way. I probably passed because I always tended to have the highest grades in my class. Having it shut off at 75 means you blacked out and something terrible happened (bombed) or it means you aced it. Since I don't think it's likely that I bombed it, I think I passed. (I will be REALLY ashamed to tell my instructors that I failed on 75 questions because I did so well in school for all those months lol).

I had 10 SATA and 3 dosage questions.

I found the test extremely similar to the kinds of questions you get in kaplan, with perhaps a little bit more knowledge requirement... the questions were very, very similar.

It was not straight forward knowledge questions, most of them weren't anyway. A lot of questions asked you to prioritize between two or more abnormal situations, and the answer wasn't that obvious or anything. I'm glad that I made the decision to just study from kaplan, because it felt like taking just another set of questions. They were a little bit easier than kaplan, I think... more straight forward, but not radically easier or anything.

I recommend studying using kaplan - HOWEVER if you need to brush up on your nursing knowledge, kaplan isn't going to help you (and you probably won't be able to do well on kaplan without a strong knowledge base). But if you have a good, solid knowledge base already (I did) then just focus on kaplan because it will train your brain to answer NCLEX questions. Kaplan helps improve your "natural" ability to see questions and know answers, I don't know how to explain it.

The drug questions were not your common NCLEX prep guide drugs. I had one drug I never heard before, the rest were kinda common, but nothing really well known.

The SATA freaked me out, as I never get them right. I just answered them as best as I could. I tended to get a lot of them at the end.

The dosage questions were not extremely easy... another warning.

Hopefully I passed, and I think kaplan prepared me as best as I could have been. I don't think I could have been more prepared than I was, because the stuff I didn't know was obscure.

Thank you for that post. I feel even more confident now taking it now that i finished everything in Kaplan. I feel that it really prepared me more than I could have on my own and I hope I am just as lucky as u r on Tuesday!!

Good luck on your exam! I was worried when I read these posts telling people to use Saunders and not Kaplan, but after taking the test myself I am totally glad I used Kaplan exclusively. It was just like another day, another set of questions.

However, I don't know if I passed or not... I am just playing the odds by saying I probably did. Even if I didn't pass, I don't regret my decision to use Kaplan, because I can't imagine studying content would have helped me to answer the questions I didn't know (they were obscure).

Thank you! I wish I had read this weeks ago. I just took NCLEX today and feel so-so about it. Qs stopped at 77.

Hi there,

I took NCLEX on July 2nd. Computer shutted off @ 75. I had about 7 SATA, 6 or 8 meds, 1 calculation question, pritority, infection control kind questions as well. For meds, not just common ones, I had two questions for the same medication which i saw before, but i have forgotten what it is for...

I had a very bad feeling, i will fail.... I have prepared to reschedule it within the next few months... :banghead:

That sounds exactly like mine! I left Pearson smiling but then had doubts which turned to slight anxiety. I felt alright about my test. There were many I felt very sure about so hopefully the odds are in my favor. Just think with all the questions we've had to prepare for this that we probably scored greater than 50+% on them.

Hold on and try to be optimistic. I know I was disappointed when it didn't shut off at 75 like many of my passing friends, but the last two questions I was sure were correct. Two of my friends passed with 149 and 122 questions as well.

Post your good news soon!

I'm sure you did fine,I also tested yesterday and had the same type of questions and found out i passed today at 75q.

i definitely agree with what u said

kaplan alone was not sufficient for me

i had to do the entire saunders book (excluding the cd) and used it as my references to topics i was very weak at

i'll write down things that will come up in kaplan that i dont understand and will go over it in detail using saunders

saunders + kaplan qbanks = passed with 75!

i really believe that if it wasnt for the qbanks...i wouldve flunked....it really helped me break down the answers....
