How was your overall experience? Did everything else look as expected to you? Would you say the evolve study guide is a good preparation? How was the math, vocab, a&p, and reading portion of the exam? Was time allowed enough for you to complete the exam? Thanks

I would say the evolve study guide very worths reading. Math, reading, and grammar are all in the book, especially math. Grammar is pretty basic. As far as vocabulary, I recommend read everything on the book. That will not be enough because only about 8 or 9 words came from the book, but at least you can expect to get some points for sure. Other words are just random. They were not latin deravatives so studying suffix and preffix didn't help, and they are not daily used words either. I personally think vocabulary is the toughest as it is usually my weakpoint (english is my second language). Like I said, you should make sure study everything on the book. The same thing for anatomy and physiology, random but good thing is the topic is not so broad as vocabulary part. As far as critical thinking, it is just common sense. You may want to study the book everyone has recommended "fundamental..." it will give you the basic of what a nurse should focus on in various situations. I did not study the book but I read through one or two pages and found it quite similar to what was asked in the test. Basic knowledge about how the body works (which part is more critical than the other one, and what are vital signs nurse should notice ) would be helpful. Overall, the result of my test reflects accurately my effort for each part. I made 96 on math, 92 on both grammar and reading, 88 on a&p, 74 on vocabulary, and 800 on ct, average 88.4. I kinda feel frustrated about vocabular though, because it was just hit or miss

Oh and about time, they give you plenty of time. I took my time and still didn't have to rush to finish the exam

I think you shouldn't worry about math because it is very basic. As long as you can handle problems on the study guide, I am sure you will be fine. Just read the questions carefully. The question I missed was because of my careless. I found out about it during the test but too late because once you submit the answer, you can't go back

Hi,

Thanks for letting giving us some pointers. I am taking my test in two days and I am soooo nervous :-/ I heard somewhere that the different portions a different amount of questions. How many questions were on each portion. Also I will be taking my test at a prometric exam center, and I was wondering they all the HESI testing centers gave calculators. I've seen some posts where others have just gotten scratch paper, and this worried me. I have been just looking over the math portion, thinking I would get a calculator!!

Hi!

I took the HESI A2 yesterday at a prometrics center. I was given 2 laminated papers (front and back) along with a fine pointed sharpie to use as "scratch paper". The only downside was that what ever markings I made on the laminated papers was permanent, but I was told to ask someone if I needed more paper. Two laminated papers front and back were enough for me, I really only used them for the math section of the test. There IS a calculator!!!! The calculator is located inside of the sections of the Hesi and it is in the obvious. You can't miss it, so no worries!!

Also, there is a timer on the test that lets you know how much time you have left--I remember I could not find information on this and was trying to find a watch at home to take with me.

There were 55 questions on the Math, Reading, Vocab and Grammar portions of my test. A&P and Critical thinking had 30 questions each.

How did u prepare for the vocabulary section because if there were only a few definitions from the book, how did you do so well? And what would you say was the best preparation for the A&P section? What questions did they ask? I plan on taking mine in 2weeks and I'm so nervous!
