Just Passed NCLEX Waiting for Enforcement Division for DUI

Published

Hi I just passed NCLEX. My case was brought to the enforcement division because I have 2 DUIs. I submitted, rehab paperwork, alcohol anonymous documents, letters of recommendation, proof of character change, a letter of explanation etc. Now I’m just waiting for the boards. Does anyone know how long the process takes? Will they give me my license? My DUIs were one in 2017 and the other in 2018 and I haven’t gotten in any trouble since then. I’m also still on probation, will they deny my license because I’m on probation?

I’m so scared! Any information would be really appreciated. I’m starting to panic and I don’t know what to think about where I stand in all of this.

Hi!

can you keep my updated? I’m applying in January with a similar issue!

best of luck, you got it!

I received a denial letter in the mail and am trying to determine what to do for the appeal.  @Kenna

I am so sorry to hear that, I'm hoping the appeal will be okay. When you applied was the new law in effect starting July 2020? What was there reasoning for denial?

@Kenna What is their new law and their reason was because I didn't have enough rehabilitation.

Interesting. I received 2 MICs (2015, 2017). I am not sure if they are looked at as the same as DUIS?

What state are you in? I might be able to give you some tips/answers!

I went through the CA diversion program almost 16 years ago. Was not aware of any new laws unless it's a new policy rather than a law. You might want to contact BON and see if you might be a candidate for a recovery contract - It's expensive and annoying as all heck. Huge money making scheme for involved agancies - but it may be your only option. Depending on where you are in CA I might be able to help with a job if your license is approved even with monitoring.

PS since you have been in successful recovery for two years you might want to see if you can have your convictions expunged.

Congrats on passing the NCLEX and on your sobriety!

As to how long this will take, it will largely be due towhat state you are in and how quickly they process things.  Hopefully with no relapse since 2018 will work in your favor. It might benifit you to get a consult with a a psychiatrist who specializes in addiction medicine. The reason I say this is because many states will refer you to a doctor for this eval and it is costly and usually ends up with a referral for treatment. At this point it would be stupid to refer you to either in-patient or out-patient treatment. Hopefully you will only have something like random urine tests.

Good luck to you
