Just Graduated and Need help/advice for nclex

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everybody;

I am a recent Nursing AS grad, who is going to be taking the NCLEX in AUG

I've been reading the threads, but I am still confused as to how to start studying for the Nclex. Any advice or help, or notes, would be greatly appreciated.

These are the books I currently have:

1. Saunders Nclex RN review 4th edition

2. Mosby's Nclex RN 6th edition

3. I have a couple of prentice hall review and rationales.

Will also be picking up the Lacharity book.

I am limited on funds, and was wondering if I should take up Kaplan or Hurst review...

Is it advised that I take a course?

If I do, I can only pick one. so which one would you suggest to take?

You don't have to take a course. The books are fine. I didn't take a course for the NCLEX PN or RN. I passed the NCLEX PN with 75 questions in about an hr on the 1st try. Hoping to pass the NCLEX RN on 1st try as well. I have used Kaplan and Saunders. Hoping to do Lippincott, and NCLEX 4000 before my exam.

You dont necessarily need more than what you have, but if you want to take a course, research the boards to find out what people like. I ended up using Saunders 5th edition and NCSBN NCLEX-RN program. The NCSBN program was cost-effective (you can buy a 3-week, 5, 8, or 15 (I think) week subscription to the course and depending on the number of weeks you have, there is a study plan. I thought the questions were harder than Saunders and the rationales weren't so good, but overall I thought it was a good resource. Saunders 5th ed. also has a 6-week recommended study guide that will generate after you take the assessment on the CD. If you don't have either of those, create your own study program. Review content in one or two areas, then do questions for each of those areas. If you're strong in content, then practice questions over and over again. You've got a lot of time, but make a study plan to sit down for a couple hours each day and do what you've planned so you don't get down to the wire.

And congrats on your graduation!!! I just graduated with my ASN May 4th and passed the NCLEX yesterday!!

Good luck with your studies!
