I just graduated and would highly recommend this program. When I started looking for a school with a RN to BSN degree I happen to come across this college here on Allnurses.com. I had never heard of it, but was looking for a cheap school that still had a good reputation.
Overall, I enjoyed the flexible scheduling of online classes and I couldn't go back to my community college for the cost of FHSU. It is a "real college" with an already established nursing progam located in Kansas.
If you have questions please let me know.
I am looking at this University for a masters degree; I got my BSN online with University of Phoenix and I felt it was a good program it was super expensive......so this time I am looking at cost.........I am wondering if they have team projects in the classes or if everything is independent.........
ERnurse71,
I havent started yet. Hoping to start in June. Did you have alot of preliqs to do? Did you take them at FHSU or from a college? I just have alot of questions about them but there seems to be not too many people in or have been through the program. Feel free to send me a private message too if you have any info. Thank you.
Does Fort Hays RN to BSN online have a team approach program like Univ of Phoenix or is it independent learning?
I am considering beginning again and am taking a closer look at costs, program organization (I didn't enjoy the teams at UOP), and advanced practice nursing education. I'm hearing negative feedback about Fort Hays instructor communication and grading. Do you find companies offer tuition assistance with this institution?
I think that FHSU gives you some value because they are so affordable compared to most universities. You have to be able to engage in content and in many ways teach yourself. I graduate next month and only one of my instructors actually posted video lectures. Interaction with other students is minimal. There's a lot of paper writing and power point making, but they are not rigorous with their grading. When I finish next month, I will have taking 30 semester credits from FHSU (the minimum to graduate) and they are all A's. That's not to say I didn't earn them, but a lot of times I felt like I could have done considerably less and still gotten an A. I chose FHSU on the basis of cost, not quality. I needed an CCNE accredited school that was cheap, and this program is definitely that. I do feel a little let down as far as the quality goes. With so much great education available for free (see Edx, Coursera, Udemy), it surprises me that paid courses can get away with such lackluster performance.

Laurab,
Did you take the speech and path class? How was that?
