Just get it over with!!

Nursing Students General Students

I'm now a junior in my program. Lately I've been thinking...I really don't want to go to school...it's boring (classroom)...I hate school!! I know that some of the other students in my class feel the same way. I'm not giving up....I just hate school!!!

Our clinicals are 45 minutes to an hour away so I have to get up at 0430 to get there in time. Fridays are a 27 hour day because once I'm home from clinicals I change and go in for a 12 hour shift. I became sick about 3 weeks ago and have been through three bouts of different antibiotics (I know my system is rebelling),to no avail. My doc can't figure it out and he's very good, thinks it may have gone into pneumonia (great like I need that!!).

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else is feeling the same way? And what, if anything did you do to get out of the slump?

essarge, are you feeling any better?:)

Yes, I'm feeling a llittle better....still wish it was over with though!! I'm taking two weeks off from word so that I can study for my final in maternity and get started in med surg. Really need some "me" time anyway. Today went out and bought some new doors for the house (always makes me feel better when I get something for the house). Thank you for asking, it is greatly appreciated. Hope everything is well with everyone else also.

Hey all!

Definitely a thread I can identify with. I'm in second year now, graduating in June and oh so feeling the burn out!! I'm just three weeks back into school and ready for it to be over LOL! It's just so much work and now twice the clinicals, and my free time is not really free, as I spend all the time thinking about school and the stress.

We just have to plug away and when we are finally done, we will feel so proud of having stuck it out and the reward will be 100-fold.

The friends I've made in the program are the reason I continue. We talk to each other all the time, support one another, and vent! It's been the saving of me. Without them, I think resentment of what school puts us through would have gotten to me.

I'm past the point of no return now, so I just got to wait it out and I, no we, will get there.

Z

Z,

Burn out is a good phrase to use. We start out school as a small kindling fire and as it progresses turn into a full bon fire!!

My program has split our class in 1/2 because of the size and not enough instructors. So instead of having 14 weeks to do a course, they've taken those fourteen weeks and excellerated them into 6 weeks. Allot of work and absolutely no down time. I'm glad that I got all of my other courses out of the way so I can concentrate on my nursing courses. I feel really bad for the one's that procrastinated and have to take not only the nursing courses but other general ed requirements with them!

Being an "older" student is sometimes really hard because of some of the other responsibilities that go along with it (having to work full time to make the bills) but you just have to keep plugging along. This semester, I see some of the other students going out and partying, which there is nothing wrong with but, I also see their studies suffering. They get to the day before the exams and are furiously calling around to get "help" with what might be on the exam. With me not having much time for anything else, I've always got notes or a book open, but I can still really feel the stress of it all. I just have to keep telling myself that there is less than two years left and I will have realized the dream that I have had for so long and finally gotten around to.

I guess what I am saying is to keep your eyes on that golden ring at the end of a very long tunnel and eventually we will all be partying at the other end!!
