Jury duty??

Published

I just finished my orientation at GCC today and returned home, picked up my mail and found a summons for jury duty!!! The trial is supposed to last 4-6 months beginning in April. Has anyone received a summons before, during school, and gotten out of it?? I did serve on a jury before, when I lived in Vegas and they were pretty strict about getting out of it. I was also summoned when I first moved here and was nursing a baby at the time, so they let me out of it that time. this is the last thing I need (although if I weren't in nursing school and raising 6 kids it would be pretty interesting)

Thanks,

Keli

Hi Angie,

You can either send in a deferrment now or wait until the day before your scheduled date to see whether or not your group gets called. I've been called about 5 times and have only had to report twice. Both times I spent about 6 hours at the courthouse waiting to be selected but never was.

Most people can get excused if they can prove to the judge that serving on a jury would cause undue hardship. If the case is only scheduled for a day or two it really would be hard to prove that serving would cause undue hardship. However, if the trial is expected to last more than a week or so it would be easy to prove.

etc and there was a message on my phone to call the base (I was in the Air Force at the time). I called and they told me I had orders to KOREA!!! Talk about your highs and lows :uhoh3:

So did you end up having to go?! I always get interested when I hear someone was there. I am korean and lived there for a time. If you did go there, where, Osan?

Phoenixgirl,

Yes, I actually did go. My original orders were to Kunsan, but I traded with someone and went to Osan. I really wanted Osan because I was just divorced and had my 3 yo dd. I ended up taking her with me for half my tour. I was supposed to leave her at home, but there was no way I could be gone from her for a year!!! As it turns out I really enjoyed Korea, just not the shop I worked in. I actually met and married my dh there, we went to Seoul to get married and so we were married by Korean officials. It was pretty funny because we had to go to the mayors office and then another office and get our marriage application stamped and as the guy was placing the stamps on the license I turned to my dh and said 'do you know when we're officially married' because there's no ceremony. The guy doing the stamps put the last one on and said "you are now married". Then we went to the embassy and registered the license. Pretty bizarre as far as weddings go, but an experience we'll definitely be able to tell grandchildren about, lol. Where in Korea did you live? Do you know any good places to get good bulgogi around here? Lol.

We were in Taegu. Are you familiar with that area? It was farther south from you guys, I think about 3-4 hours. We had three bases all within a few miles of eachother: Walker, Henry, and George.

You go to GCC right? There is a GREAT place right down the street. Go east on Olive, it turns into Dunlap. On the north side, I think around 43rd or 35th there is Takamatsu. YOu can't miss it because the outside is designed with wood. There are a few asian stores right next to it.

I know of some other places too, but this is the best place, IMO.
