Hey all. Just curious- what can a junior army CPT do in the nurse corps? I know you can specialize but I think I want to stay a hotel. Is it true we can become clinic OICs at small bases? I can't really get an informed answer from some buddies and it's too soon for me to ask HRC or my CNOIC about it. Just curious what all we can do.
Thanks!

My CNOIC is a CPT, but I'm not sure how long he's been a CPT. I know others that are head nurses for clinics and TMCs. I'm at a MEDDAC. Also Brigade Nurse -- I know a few CPTs that are Brigade Nurses. When the time comes, you might want to check into the head nurse course at Ft. Sam (I think it's called the CNOIC/NCOIC course).
Also, it's never too soon to ask your CNOIC about your career path -- they should cover some of that during initial counseling or mid-point counseling anyway. Assuming they do those counselings, of course!

Most OIC's even at small bases are senior CPT's about to pin on Major in the next year or so. Yes, you can stay a Hotel your whole career. I have meet some COL's who are straight 66H's.
Hey thanks for the advice. Im about to wrap up CNTP so I have plenty of time until PCS time. Honestly it amazes me how many LT's around me want to pop smoke as soon as their 4 is up. Im really enjoying this whole Army thing so far.

We all know the Army isn't for everyone ... especially for some of those who are in it! LOL. Glad you are having a positive experience! :)

I also loved the Army, As Lunah said though, the Army isn't for everyone. I get warm fuzzies though when I see someone like you be so psyched about your service and just be happy at what you are doing. Good luck on pinning and following the path you would like to follow.
