June 2014 CRNE pass rate?

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the pass rate for the June 2014 CRNE was? I know that it's scaled (550/800), but I read that it doesn't necessarily mean that the pass rate is 68.75%. I heard there is a way to calculate the actual pass rate with the performance profile that is given to individuals who are not successful.

Anyone know?

Thanks!

I heard that as well, but I've never seen a fail letter, so I don't know. I had thought that the letter indicated how many questions wrong, and how many correct were needed to pass. Maybe someone who has had an unsuccessful attempt will be able to answer this.

From what I've heard the pass rate is 130/180, but this info is from a friend of a friend so I'm not sure if it's accurate. Please confirm someone

What I am wondering about is if there were any test questions this go-round. In years past, the exam has been out of MORE than 200, whereas this time it was bang-on 200. Also, what would be the point of test questions? The October exam is already written, so if test questions appeared on the June exam, they would not be going on the October exam. They couldn't be for the NCLEX, as it's different from what I understand.

I don't see how we'd ever find out one way or the other, but I do wonder!

I know that the fail letter tells the writer how they did and compares it to the score of how other people did (the average). I was told that you can add up the four categories (e.g.: scoring 600/800 on Changes of Health, 550/800 on Health & Wellness, etc.), then divide that by four (since there are four major categories) to find out the passing mark. This could be wrong though.

Only someone with a "failed" letter can tell us the average of what people scored on the categories!

I'm just really curious!!! I passed the exam but I do wonder about how well I did, or if I was just borderline!

Hi friends, Could somebody help me find out whats the passing score. I attempeted June 2014 CRNE examination and i failed. My score is 546. But if i add the score in the 4 competencies and take the average my score is 557. Does anyone know how to find out final scaled score? I called CNO and they dont have any information about the scoring.

The people you need to talk to about scaled scoring is the Canadian Nurses' Association. The provincial and territorial colleges only get the result, they have nothing to do with how the result is arrived at. Contact CNA at 613.237.2133 or 1.800.361.8404 or by sending an email to [email protected]. My guess is that your scaled score for the fourth competency, Changes in Health, is significantly lower than for the other three and that if you were to use this equations: [(A+B+C)÷3] + D ÷ 2 your result will be 546.

Thanks. I tried the equation and the score I get is 543 not 546. Is there anyone else having the same problem ?

Hi iwillpass2014,

Do you feel comfortable sharing a picture of your performance file? You can just remove your name/information. I believe I can try and find out the pass rate & how you did

You can't divide by four because the weighting for each category is different. Without knowing the actual percentages of each category, I would say the weight of each category is approximately 10% nurse-client, 20% professional practice, 30% health and wellness, and 40% changes in health (see summary page, CRNE development guidelines on pg. 13 of the prep guide). The scaled score breaks down how you did in that category according to the difficulty of the exam. So in each category, there is a minimum number of questions you need to answer correctly (which changes with each exam) to pass that category. The scaled score only tell you how you did as compared to others taking the exam and to how you measure to an entry level RN.

More importantly, as it states in the CNA website, a raw score must be a passing score (e.g. 124/180) to be considered a pass. So you can do badly in professional practice and still pass the exam. The same can not be said if you did badly in changes in health, as it compromises 40% of the exam (in the approximation, most likely more). So you can use the scaled score to calculate how you did and calculate how many questions you answered correctly (the % of questions in each category is shown in the profile, and there are 200 questions this time). Taking hopefulpass' example from the crne june 2014 thread:

professional practice 640 x 0.2

Nurse client relationship 639 x 0.1

health and wellness 609 x 0.3

changes in health 430 x 0.4

Doing a weighted calculation would show that the weighted total would be 546.6, just a smidge below passing. This is of course an approximation due to not knowing the real percentages of each category in the June CRNE.
