Juggling life in LPN school

Published

Started LPN school in August and I have to say I seriously dislike my program (for many reasons:uhoh3:) Will not get into all the details though. I have made good friends and I love clinicals but am finding it very hard and stressful to work full time and go to school full time while still making time for family, friends, boyfriend, etc. Working less hours is unfortunately not an option but I am fortunate enough to have a job that allows me to study during slow periods.

Any nurses out there who survived nursing school have any words of wisdom? How did you juggle everything? HOW DID YOU DO IT ??? :D

If you think it is possible to juggle full time work, boyfriend, family, and friends AS WELL AS studying, attending class, doing clinicals, sleeping, cooking, eating, laundry...

then you are superwoman! I had to severely budget my time when I was in school. I figured anything was bearable for a year and plugged along accordingly. I run a household and found it necessary to cut down on work to about 15-20 hr/wk.

Try going to school, 10 years after high school graduation, with a husband, 2 small kids and a 1 hour and 45 minute drive EACH way to school. THAT is stressful. I did it and am proud, 15 years later i can truly say it was the hardest and smartest thing I have ever done!!!Oh, and yes. I also held a full time job, had day care costs and also had a mortgage to pay. You put on your big girl panties and do what you gotta do. And in the long run, it odes pay off- The feeling of being proud of yourself is so good!!! You just gotta do what YOU want to do!! It truly is about priorities!!!

If you dont have to work full time, cut back. I have 4 kids and do not work, but my home life is like having a part time job minimum. I find it difficult to get my homework done and get enough sleep. As for the boyfriend and friends tell them your schedule is very busy this year and you will catch up with them later. I have no social life and rarely spend time alone with my husband. I dont like my program for the reason it is too stressful, it moves too fast and there is too much work. Sound familiar? I wouldnt mind a part time program that would allow for more flexibility because life does happen, but if it happens to us in this program we are most likely going to end up failing out of the program or being forced to quit. Good luck, set your priorites, if you dont have any kids, that means YOU are #1 , NOT your Boss, boyfriend, or friends. They dont pay your bills, you have to get thru this so you have the career and income you need.

it is hard as hell, i have less than 4 months left and r stuggling financially, my daughter and i had to move back n with grandma just to survive but i must say im doing great in school and im so proud of my self, u can do it

There is no time for full time work in a full time LPN school, let alone school and life. You will find out really there is only time for school.

I'm in LVN program from CA started Sept 26, 2011. My class is from Monday-Friday starting from 0800-1630. Serve as Youth Pastor on Saturday. I have two babies (2yo and 9mo). My wife work LVN Noc Shift. My only time to study is when my babies are asleep, I study from 2300-0100, sleep for 4 hours and I have to wake up at 0500 to study until 0700. Waiting for my wife to come back from her Noc Shift at about 0730 and then I go to school. While I'm at school, my babies stays with my 'sleepy' wife until I come back from school at about 1630. After school, I babysit+study while letting my wife get rest for her Noc Shift at 1030. After my wife left for work, I put my babies to sleep so I can have time to study. This juggling life cycle goes on and on. It is hard to juggle between: School+Family+Ministry, especially no family/relatives to help taking care of our babies (Instead, I take turn with my wife) and we don't send our babies to Day Care/Nanny. Also to pay for school fees and keep up with daily need bills is another challenge. Thank God, so far we survived without failing my classes nor sick from lack of rests nor issues on our babies health & development. I'm so looking forward to complete my school by June 15, 2012. Getting ready for passing the state board's test is another challenge ahead. I'm sure if I can do it and so can you. Because remember, Bible said that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" [Philippians 4:13] Yes, we CAN do it!!

I wish you all the luck, term 2 and 3 are way harder than term 1 fundamentals
