Joy In Striking???

Published

Hello everyone. I would like to express my sadness towards the exuberence displayed at yesterday's vote. Upon the announcement of the collaborative bargaining rejection, several union members erupted in cheer and celebration, one even had the audacity to pass out cigars. As a relatively new RN, it is unfortunate to see such a lack of compassion and the ignorance displayed. Where is the victory? These people malign a profession which should be entrenched with empathy and care. As a PNA member, I am deeply offended and humiliated. Not only are several of our own out of work during the holidays, we are also inadvertently causing layoffs and compromising work hours for other employees? Should we be high-fiving each other and rejoicing? You all ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Man Tenet sounds like an employer to AVOID like plague. But I am sure they do not stand alone in such evil, greedy business practices, hmmm?:(

No doubt about that. I've heard from a coworker that Columbia healthcare is another chain to avoid. Of course this is just opinion. Tenet, man, they are dirty.:nono:

Specializes in ER, ICU, L&D, OR.

If you want you can pick on Tenet

But leave columbia hca alone, and its no longer colubia anyway it is plain old HCA

Ive been with them 17 years now, treat me very well for the most part.

Guys:

Hate to sound naive, but what exactly is "Tenet"? I'm from northeast NJ and have never heard the name?

Thanks!:)

Big hospital chain. Lots of scandals.

Out here in California, lots of unneccessary surgeries performed to rip off the government.

Lousy employer. Big strike in Pennsylvania.

I'm sure there's more, but that should give you some idea, at least.

;)

Thanks. 'nuf said.

Like I said, this was just an opinion I've heard from 1 person...she said while she was a supervisor in one of their psych facilities they put her in positions where she would have to perform illegal actions--(eg. force people to sign in). I have no personal experience, just secondhand. But from the things she shared with me, I believe I would steer clear--just MHO.

Specializes in Oncology/Haemetology/HIV.

Then you are much luckier than most people I know that have worked with them.

RNangelER:

Thanks for the tip on Tenet. You mean they actually post their

indiscretions? I'll check it out. Love to be informed.

Happy New Year

Tell the MCP ASSOCIATION OF philly

TO ASK THE CITY OR STATE TO TAKEOVER THEIR HOSPITAL.

TRUST ME.. THE FOR-PROFIT HOSPITAL CHAINS AREN'T GOING TO takeover a hospital with $30 million debt..

a poor investment.

we went thur the same SH*T HERE ON MIAMI BEACH IN 1993!

OUR OLDEST HOSPITAL, ST FRANCIS WAS SOLD TO COLUMBIA CORP.

COLUMBIA LATER BOUGHT HCA(the frist's family kicked the CEO, richard l. scott to the curb). eventually dropping the columbia name due to medicare fraud etc. and becoming HCA.

HCA PAID CLOSE TO $946,000.00 IN FINES upon BILL FRIST, MD(heir to HCA) becoming senate majority leader.

St Francis Hospital(it went thur name changes) was sold to a developer and TURNED INTO A ZILLION DOLLAR DEVELOPMENT.

(ALMOST COMPLETED).

we were the "FRIST" .... I MEAN THE FIRST CATHOLIC HOSPITAL IN THE USA TO BE BOUGHT OUT BY A FOR-PROFIT hospital CHAIN=== COLUMBIA/ HCA.

WATCH SEN BILL FRIST.

HE WORKS FOR HIS INHERITANCE. TAKING CARE OF HCA!!!!!!!!!

MCP is BLEEDING.

BOTTOM LINE:

SHOW A WAY TO MAKE $$$ SO A BUYER WILL PURCHASE YOUR hospital!

TRAUMA / TELEMETRY/ MED SURG/ TO REHAB..

good luck!

Betty,

Loved your post.

One Friday in the late 70's the nurses went to work at the county hospital. Even before their first cup of coffee they were told that the county was getting out of the hospital business, so all of them were out of work. They were told that they could come to work at their old jobs on Monday morning for only a $2 an hour pay cut under the hospitals NEW AND IMPROVED PRIVATE ownership.

Same thing happened in the city. One morning the mayor nailed up a sign at the city hospital that said it was closed. He did this of course, after everybody in the world told him he couldn't. Hizzoner just lifted a page from the county execs notebook.

Government has no monopoly on this kind of bureacratic shenanigans. I worked in a General Motors plant that GM got tired of being forced by the UAW to pretend to treat employees fairly. One day they said, "Yeah, y'all got a contract with GM, but this aint a GM Plant no more." The nurses in plant medical said, "Bye now," and the shop started hiring sub-contractors and temps to work in jobs that used to pay union scale.

I worked in that plant for a couple of months. When I came back from vacation the outfit that had been contracting there didn't exist any more.

Look at any large company. Any time they get sick of behaving responsibly they just change their name. Thats where we got Ameritech/SBC/ect,ect.

Ford came up with Visteon, General Motors came up with GMAC/et.al. and Chrysler says that a bunch of mean Germans bought them. That's why it was OK for them to DOUBLE the co-pay for their retirees medical and prescription insurance. "So lessee maw do we buy groceries or see the doctor?"

A couple of years back my wife and I decided to refinance, so the first place we went was our own bank. They had been our first mortgage holder and when I told the lady that they had sold our note after only 2-3 months she said, "Oh that was before we became Whatchamacallit--that could never happen again!" Funny thing, a few weeks later we closed in another city and all of our mortgage stuff came with nothing that ever mentioned Whatchamacallit. In fact they next year Whatchamacallit became Whichamajigger. I can't tell you the "incumbent" name of the bank where I have done business for over 20 years, without looking at my ATM card.

I've given up trying to figure out which hospital I'm dealing with 'cause every time I do they've got a new name, complete with some cute little logo, and some BS about how dedicated to helping sick people they are.

So they all do it. The minute the little guy gets one foot on the rug, they jerk it out from under you.

:roll

OWNEY:

owney:

you hit the nail right on the head!!

i hope this MCP OF PHILLY CAN BE SAVED, BUT THE FOR-PROFIT AND NON-PROFIT hospitals LOOK AT THE BOTTOM LINE: can we turn this MCP around and make a profit?

if the answer is "NO" than it becomes a development or a new dorm for an area college.

THIS has happen with st francis hospital of miami beach with the good-bye kisses of HCA. ALSO, THIS HAS HAPPEN to the old osteopathic hospital in lancaster, pa. HMA sold the hospital property to stevens trade school. HMA IS building a new hospital in lititz, pa. the suburb has folks with a wide range of med. insurance. THEY PAY!

AND PLEASE NOTE THAT THE HOSPITALS FOR AND NON-PROFIT GET REIMBURSED ON PURCHASES COMING IN AND LATER SELLING OFF TO ZILLION DOLLAR DEVELOPERS or colleges.

however, ST JOE HOSPITAL OF READING, PA. DONATED THEIR HOSPITAL PROPERTY TO THE COMMUNITY FOR RE-DEVELOPMENT prior to building a new hospital out of the city.

YOU WILL NEVER SEE THE FOR-PROFIT HOSPITAL CHAINS DONATE A HOSPITAL PROERTY TO ANYONE!!!! THEY ARE FOR THE MONEY AND BY THE MONEY!

TENET MUST SELL THEIR HOSPITAL IN REDDING, CA THAT HAD MADE $262 MILLION PRE-TAX PROFIT. they were performing unnecessary cardiac surgeries and got busted by the FEDS. SELL OR LOSE THE FEDERAL SUBSIDIES AND TENET IS DOING JUST THAT.

I THINK TENET HAD PLANS TO GET RID OF THEIR HOSPITALS THAT ARE IN THE RED AND THAT INCLUDES MCP OF PHILLY WAAAAAAAAAAY BEFORE THE NURSES'S STRIKE.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT YOUR GOVERNOR ALLOWED TENET TO COME IN AND BUY, BUY, BUY!

AND HCA WAS ALLOWED TO COME TO FLORIDA TOO.

THOSE FOR-PROFIT BOYS.. THEY know how to make $$$$ at the expense of the taxpayers.

adios
