Joint commission and PICU

Specialties PICU

Does anybody know if there is a joint commission standard about an age cut off for pediatric icu? Or if they require acls for picu nurses who admit adult patients? Just curious because our picu is planning on admitting a 24 year old tomorrow and I honestly do not feel comfortable when nobody has acls and I've never been inserviced on the bolt. Thoughts or opinions?

Just to go a touch off-topic... there really isn't anything for nurses to do with the Camino. It's a fiberoptic monitoring device that is inserted and calibrated by neurosurgery. There is no drainage component for venting, and unlike EVD monitoring of ICP, there's no requirement for ongoing calibration. Other than ensuring the fiberoptic cable is protected from being pulled out, kinking or being caught in the siderails, the only care nurses provide is to the insertion site. So the only in-service education you'd require is, "This is a Camino. Don't touch it. Record this number on your flowsheet."

The bigger concern for the Joint Commission wouldn't be the age of the patient. It would be the lack of familiarity with the equipment.
