Hello everyone

I am thinking about joining the Army reserves, i am a registered nurse with 4 years experience in med/surg, tele, rehab and oncology. I am 41 yrs old, any ideas, i will be talking to a recruiter within the next 3 weeks, what are some questions i could ask a recruiter? I heard that if you are in basic training and get hurt you cannot report it because they will send you home true or false?

Thanks.

Hi!

first off... you want to speak with a AMEDD recruiter and not a gneral recruiter. A AMEDD recruiter is a recruiter who specializes in recruiting healthcare personnel to the military. Secondly, as a Commissioned Officer (I presume that is what you are after since you are a RN), you would not go to Basic Training you would go to OBLC (Officer Basic Leadership Course) which is a 3-1/2 week but intensive version of basic for healthcare personnel. there is another thread that has a link that you can get an idea of what goes on at OBLC. But you learn the basics about manners of an officer and how to behave, how to clear a building how to hold and fire a gun, how to clean a gun, how to wear the uniform, how to get along with others and hopefully work with them as a team, you go into a gas chamber, you sleep out in the field with no running water, no shower..... etc. etc. You get up at 4 am and some days, from what I hear its a 15-16 hour day and you are beat... but I hear you have a great time none the less. I am looking forward to my turn to go!

I hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the information

FYI...if you are injured during initial training, it will depend upon the severity of the injury. We had a cadet sent home from my officer training (USAF back in 81). This issue wasn't that she broke her foot. The issue was that she hadn't passed the PT test yet and could not if she had a broken foot.

She was sent home to heal and then did her training the following summer.
