Hey everyone!

Does anyone know anything about Johnston Memorial Hospital? How is it to work there? Pay?

Thanks! :)

I graduated w/ a bunch of folks who work there and really like it. Very much a community hospital w/ a small-town feel and friendly people (did clinicals there). They have a new director who is really trying hard to upgrade the facility and make it grow with the surrounding area. I expect good things in the coming years from JMH. I work at Wake Med Raleigh and really like it. I wanted to work at a larger hospital. Hope this helps. Are you moving to the area? DH is a Realtor if you need info on Johnston County...

Hi Lost,

Wasn't sure if you were still thinking about working at JMH, but thought I'd drop you a line. I started out at WakeMed, my Husband's been there 22 years, it's a Fantastic Hospital, but it was just too Huge for me, sort of overwhelming. I switched to JMH about 18 months ago because it's a small community hospital, everyone knows everyone sort of place, very friendly bunch of people. My co-workers are honestly the nicest, most helpful bunch of people I've ever worked with - not all the backstabbing and gossiping I've seen in other places.

They have a good benefits package (even paid off my student loan) - base pay is the same as what larger hospitals are paying and weekend/night shift diff is excellent. There are unfortunately a couple of downsides - we are notoriously understaffed, which is why You should come work with us - because We Need Help!!! Biggest problem is their lack of CNA's - we should have 2 on my floor at night (almost 30 patients - lots of total cares), but only ever have 1 and lots of times there are none - which puts a lot more work on us. If they'd just hire more staff, it would be a great place to work.

They don't seem to hire LPN's. That would help with their staffing issue. If they do hire LPN's I've never seen an ad from them stating that.

SDALPN,

They stopped hiring LPN's because they are phasing them out. The few remaining ones were offered the LPN-RN Bridge Program, which some chose, others who had been out of school a long time weren't interested.

I am a travel nurse who worked JMH for a year very recently, and as much as it is going to hurt me to say this....pay is okay (for regular staff)....okay here goes the hard part....it is a very good place to work...ow....that hurt. I had hoped word wouldn't get out as I would really like to return there (favorite place in 9 years of travel). I HATE being honest sometimes. Sometimes work is pretty hard, but staff is great (most floors). The only things I would change about this hospital are breakfast would be served in the cafeteria, and the house supervisors would be a little more supportive and never again say "deal with it". For whatever it's worth, I miss joking around with the CEO - yeah - pretty friendly.

ps. If anyone goes work there, could you remind them that sometimes travel nurses are worth it? Thanks.
