Johns Hopkins University Masters Entry into Nursing Spring 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I figured I would start a thread for those students who are applying or did apply for the Johns Hopkins Masters Entry into Nursing program for spring 2016.

Does anyone have a link to the Facebook page?

Hi Everyone,

I've applied to this program as well and I am anxiously waiting for a decision. I'm nervous because I haven't received anything yet via email or US mail like many of you have. Just a little background about myself. I was a Nutritional Sciences major with a minor in Chemistry. I had an undergraduate GPA of 3.58 and I'm almost done with my MBA in healthcare. I have a current graduate gpa of 3.83. My gre was waived for this program. Am I a competitive applicant?

Hi fakinw1,

I would say that yes, academically, you are quite competitive. How do you feel about the other areas of your application? Strong letters of recommendation? Strong personal essays? Extracurriculars?

Hi Ninja_Vanish,

Ty 4 ur reply. I feel like my recommendations are very strong. I had originally reached out to 5 recommenders just to be safe should in case 2 not get back to me. But as fate would have it, all 5 turned in letters on my behalf. I have both academic (grad & undergrad profs), and a professional recommender. I interned at the CDC from 01-07-05-08 and assisted with a project there in collaboration with JHU. I also have 100+ hours of volunteer experience in a Labor and delivery unit, and I've volunteered with Habitat for Humanity to complete a home, I've helped pack 5,000 school lunches for inner city youth who would probably not have lunch while they were home during spring break. I'm also a member of a few honor societies. I feel good about my personal essays because I reached out to an admissions counselor for advising on how to "market" myself.

But neverthless, I'm still NERVOUS ...lol

I received an acceptance email today!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I received mine too! Congrats!!!!!!! Can someone add me to the group? I'm Shannon Cummings

I haven't been accepted to the group yet either. I just sent a request.

Do you know details on deferring? I am also on the west coast and waiting for the packet.. I am wondering if there's a date we must accept or decline by, and if deferral is for guaranteed admission in the fall or just kept in the application pool and reviewed again? Figuring out financing and wondering if deferral isn't the best option for me at this time.

Hi jamaral,

Here's their policy as currently listed on the website regarding deferment:

Deferral/Postponement

"Opportunities exist for admitted students to postpone attendance for up to one year (all academic programs). If you wish to postpone your attendance must submit a written request and explanation to the Director of Admissions. Only students who have paid the non-refundable enrollment deposit may seek postponement.

Postponement request decisions are formally communicated by the Director of Admissions the decision to the student via email. Scholarship funds, if offered, may not be awarded to the student if granted approval to postpone to another session or year."

I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact admissions directly for clarity as well. I haven't received my admissions packet yet either. Updated information regarding this might be in the packet as well.

The date to accept by is in November - around a week after accepted students day on the 6th

Thank you @fakinw1 and @hopefulhdr

I am very excited to be accepted, just trying to weigh pros and cons of potentially deferring and hoping to get some more scholarships to help fund - particularly the nurse corps scholarships that could cover the whole program (if received) and started in september.. I am fortunate to not have any loans at this point, but am trying to be conscious of what it's like to sit on top of $25,000 in loans per semester

Glad I have a little time to figure it out :)
