Johns Hopkins Hospital UAP/RN offer

I recently graduated with my ADN and I was trying to get into JHH RN Residency program. However, an HR person contacted me and asked if I would be interested in a UAP/RN position to "get my foot in the door" so to speak. Has anyone heard of this before? ....or done this?

what does UAP/RN mean?

It refers to an RN (usually a licensed new grad) who will accept an RN/UAP position and transition from an unlicensed assistive personnel position such as a clinical associate to wait for an RN position to open up.

Thats how it was explained to me.

Anyone has been hired for an RN position in Peds?? I'm waitlisted there waiting for positions in the new Children's hospital.

I had an interview set up for the month of December but was cancelled because the Nurse Manager had many other applicants to interviewed. Generally, I haven't heard anything about anyone hired in Peds at JHH

I have an interview on Dec 8th. I believe that they are interviewing everyone for future openings. I also had another interview back in October and they told me that the position was waitlisted.

Since, I have accepted a position at Sinai, they are starting to do the UA/RN positions as well because of the influx of new grads.

@ Lato MD I used to work on Meyer 3 (not so long ago) so any questions you have I would be glad to answer. I worked in the ITU also for quite awhile. I work on another unit at hopkins now (a icu), I must say that after several years of working there...which was quite hard. I will more than likely be leaving soon to go to another hospital. Its very hard work and very hard hours especially if you rotate between nights and days, the salary portion isnt great either because you basically end up at work for alot longer without getting paid...any the best part of hopkins though is the experience and nobody can ever erase that off of your resume!

I realize this is a somewhat old thread, but today I received an email from JHH about the same RN/UAP job position you are all speaking about. I went to Johns Hopkins School of Nursing but moved back to California after graduation (I'm still a new grad and haven't had any RN experience). According to the recruiter's email one of the criteria is: "Obtained and maintain both an RN license and Certified Nursing Assistant certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing."

So... I am licensed in California and can apply for a MD license. But... it has always been my understanding that it isn't possible as an RN to then go back and become a CNA. The MD board of nursing website has me so confused I have no idea what to do.

Hopefully some of you will still answer this old thread... were all of you who applied for or were hired as an "RN/UAP" at Johns Hopkins already certified as a nursing assistant prior to becoming an RN? It seems to silly to be overqualified and unable to be considered for this... especially since one of you said it can turn into an RN Clinician position in as soon as 6 weeks.

Many units are now just hiring new grad RNs without experience as UAP/RNs.

You don't have to go back to become a CNA but you do have to apply for the CNA certification. According to the MD Board of Nursing website, "Graduates of approved nursing programs RN or LPN may apply for certification as a CNA without further training if the applicant's approved RN or LPN educational program meets the CNA training program requirements."

Do you know if they are still hiring graduate nurses? I dont hv a MD license yet, but thinking about starting the endoresment process. I live in Philly and already hv PA, DE, NJ license and still no luck of finding a job
