Hi,
I have applied for and received an invite to interview at JHH on a pediatric unit. I figured since there are previous threads for past years I'd start a new one for 2020 hires/start dates! Lets all keep each other informed and updated through the process.

I got an AirBnb nearby the hospital and ubered there in the morning - be careful with where you end up staying, because the area around the hospital isn't the safest. They asked me for my official transcripts to put in your applicant file and they make a bunch of copies. You end up bringing your file to your interview with you to give to your interviewer. The file includes: your cover letter, resume, copy of transcripts. The nursing recruiting office doesn't necessarily look at your GPA - they look for completion of courses, no failed courses, nothing with red flags.
Next, they gave me a cute little map of the hospital and sent me on my merry way to my interview. Your interview times is determined by your interviewer. All of my interviews were usually in the morning. The hospital is big with long hallways and lots of corridors lol so imo, it was easy to get lost. BUT there are information desks every couple of feet and lots of people who are nice and willing to help you out. Each interview varied for me - one unit asked me situational questions, like "If you got into a fight with a coworker about your patient, what would you do?" Another unit asked me more about things I put on my resume like "Tell me more about volunteering with XYZ." Roughly, each interview took about 30 minutes. They have this thing called "share time," where you follow a nurse on the unit around and get to observe. I found it really helpful and I usually asked the nurses on the unit more about JHH, Baltimore, where to live, where to eat (lol), etc. You will find that there are a lot of new grad nurses everywhere, which is nice.
For lunch, I wandered into the cafeteria. There's a cafe and there's a cafeteria. The cafe is more pastries, coffee, and expensive salads. The cafeteria has great food choices - I think there was a Subway and some Bagel company in there?
After lunch, I reported back to the nursing recruiting office for a presentation. There was a powerpoint on benefits, types of insurances, adulting stuff, uniform, PARKING ($12/DAY??), etc associated with JHH. After, you meet with your recruiter to discuss your pay. Then, I think I was free to leave unless I had any other questions.
Other things that I thought I should mention is - they tell you that you can wear business casual clothing and change into scrubs for share time. I personally didn't? I showed up in navy blue scrubs (navy blue = JHH nurse), bc I found that there isn't staff break rooms on the units I interviewed in and I didn't want to take up too much time changing in and out. No lab coat needed. Also, other interviewees did the same thing. Bring a little snack/ drink in case your nurse has a break to sit down.
I hope this somewhat answered your question and if I'm missing any important info, somebody feel free to jump in and fill in the gaps! I can't message you for some reason ? I'll just edit this post if I think of anything else.

Also, there's only 1 start date per month and it's not guaranteed on if you'll start immediately, because it depends on if the seats are full. I interviewed in Oct 2019 for a start date of Dec 2019, only to now start in March 2020 bc Jan/Feb 2020 were full ?
A PSA for anybody transferring their licenses to MD BON!! IT TAKES FOREVERRR!!! AND MD BON does not pick up their phones!!! I was placed on hold for 2+ hours on multiple occasions.
Thank you for all this good information.

I think it took about a week to 2 weeks to hear back. I also forgot to mention that you choose the dates and times!! Mistake from earlier.
I am kind of nervous lol,... ok, I applied to another position today and they responded today, inviting me for the interview, to pick dates for interview and asking for references.
The email said “only professional emails, no gmail, yahoo, aol,” etc.
What if your references don’t want to use their work emails or if the reference email you know is only gmail?

First of all, congratulations!!! Remember they need YOU, yasssssss. Some of my references used their personal emails and my recruiter ended up calling them and verifying that it was them. It shouldn't be a problem!
Lol my professor's email was something like ilovemisterbugz, so it'll be fine :)

I haven’t gotten anything yet either! I know the deadline list had the earliest date to get that done as the last week of February so I’m not super stressed! My roommates are starting earlier and they said they got it within the window the deadline sheet gave!

Hi @NewbieBSN, are you a Dec or May grad? Just curious because I graduate in May and was wondering if they are responding to May grad applications yet
Hi @may20rn. I was told by nurse recruitment to apply 4 months before graduating. I have applied to a few positions and some of my apps are under review and some have been forwarded to the department for consideration.
Best of luck to you!
