Hi,
I have applied for and received an invite to interview at JHH on a pediatric unit. I figured since there are previous threads for past years I'd start a new one for 2020 hires/start dates! Lets all keep each other informed and updated through the process.
@Notes95j congratulations on getting a job in the NICU! That's amazing! I'm applying there too but for May graduates. Did you apply to any other NICUs? I've shadowed in a couple and will be applying to a few others in the area but I don't know much about JH NICU! I'm just wondering if you chose it over other hospitals and why ?

Thank you! ? I applied to basically every nicu in the area and got offers from at Hopkins, inova, and Children’s National. I picked Hopkins because I heard good things about the unit culture there and wanted somewhere that had an attached L&D. I did an internship at a NICU at a children’s hospital without an L&D and then my practicum at a NICU with one and liked it much better!

I'm kinda looking around everywhere. Have you found anything good so far?
There’s a bunch of apartments/nice townhouses in those areas. People I know from Baltimore recommended those two areas and Federal Hill as nicer/safer options. Everything I’ve looked at has been under $1.2k per person which is pretty good!
@Notes95j oh wow! That's impressive! I've heard it's really hard to get offers in the NICU as a new grad, especially at Children's so congratulations again lol! I shadowed there and they told me they get around 500 applicants and only take 10-15 people. I'm glad you bring up the L&D thing though, I actually feel the same way but have been told from people around me to pick children's because it's number 1. I don't know what to do! Was the L&D aspect of it the only thing that made you choose JH? Or I guess was there anything you didn't like about children's or inova? I'm sure there are differences in their programs, salary, etc. I live closest to Fairfax and Children's so those are probably my top two but I'm applying to JH and Georgetown too just because it's so competitive. If I'm as lucky as you and get multiple offers (assuming I get an offer at all, who knows!), I seriously have no idea what I would do ? I really really appreciate your insight!!

If you want just message me! I’m happy to help as much as I can! ?

They asked me the usual interview/behavioral questions you find online. They also wanted a specific example for each question of what you actually did. Only ones that threw me off were when they asked for a time I gave bad patient care and a time I’ve made a mistake in a clinical setting. Also during the share time with a floor nurse don’t get too casual. When the nurse I was with brought me back to the office she was handed an evaluation form for me so it’s just as much of an interview as the sit down portion! Good luck!!

My offer was $29 and some change/hour theoretically but around $61k per year. There’s also an extra 2% added onto each check to help cover when you have to stay late and shift differentials (which weren’t amazing honestly). From what I understand you need to hit 240 hours in 6 weeks but can pick how much you work every week as long as you hit that 240 hours at the end. Compared to my other offers it was more money in the first year but then lower after that.
